2- 6 November is National Consumer Week spearheaded by Citizens Advice, Trading Standards and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

This year's focus is our new consumer rights, which came into force on 1 October.

As shoppers and consumers it's important we're all armed with the right info and aware of all our rights.

Listen to Martin's Consumer Need to Knows:

Do you have a question about how the new rights affect you?

Citizens Advice will be answering your consumer questions here on the Forum and in a Twitter Q&A on launch day: 11am Monday 2 November.

Please remember Citizens Advice is a charity, its resources aren't finite. Try to ask your questions on the Forum as succinctly as possible, one per post, so that it can find and answer your question quickly and easily.

Thanks!

Things to do

I live in Scotland. A local retail park has its parking managed by a private company called UKPC. My vehicle had a PCN affixed to the window.

    What should I do?

Edit: Like C-m below, I am aware of what the response should be, so this is a somewhat loaded question.

    I live in England.

What would Citizens' Advice say about a UKPC parking charge notice on the windscreen for a person if it was applied to a car this week?

And what would CAB say of it was a PCN from Premier Parking Logistics?

I must admit - to be open about this - I do post on the parking tickets board here on MSE but am keen to hear CAB advice please, for other newbies who may not have stumbled to the parking tickets sub-forum.

    :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Instead of waiting for the CAB to come back here try reading the newbies faq in the dedicated forum for parking fines and tickets.

Hardly being fully "open" about this are you?

(You actually tell us you are a director of a firm that appeals parking tickets and presumably if you don't know the answer your professional advice is worthless)

Thought that was clear - I assist consumers every day with these issues and want people looking at this thread to see the CAB answers. I know what my answers are but we are concerned for the CAB to advise people correctly.

It is especially topical, what with the Beavis v ParkingLie case decision coming out on Weds this week about penalties in consumer contracts.

What has this to do with the new consumer rights this thread is about?
  • Thanks to everyone that's just joined us in the Twitter Q&A. We have a couple more "regular" questions we didn't get time to ask over there and we'll be asking here... :)
