Money Moral Dilemma: Is it OK to earn cashback for friends' payments?

This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks...
I'm going to a restaurant with a group of friends later; they all usually pay with cash and I'll be paying with my cashback credit card. Would it be wrong to ask if they minded giving me the money and then me paying the bill myself to earn the cashback?

Of course its fine. The cashback will likely only be pennies in any case.0

Yes no problem .. but remember to pay your card back in full when the statement comes in0

I wish it was the main problem/dilemma in the MoneySaver's life...0

Why is this 'a dilemma'? For goodness sake...just go ahead and ask.0

Yes of course it's fine. It's quite normal at the end of a meal for people who are paying by card to take some of the cash and pay it on card. Your friends have paid in their normal way, you get some cash and some cashback, and the restaurant gets their money. Everyone's a winner.0

Yes I woud say it is no problem at all although I would avoid actually mentioning the cashback ....0

Absolutely not.
The process should be that after adjusting for the fact that Joanne didn't have the starter and Bob ordered that really expensive steak, with associated arguments and debate about the exact adjustments for this and other variations, such as Tim not having any wine because he was driving, the thrifty money saver should then calculate the actual cashback he is generating. That should then be back calculated from the above modifications and allocated to his so called friends on a pro rate basis, allowing for the fact that no one has any change and some people thought the service was poor and deserved no or a reduced tip. As well as Kerry obviously not tipping as a general principle, and the fact that the tip should be paid in cash, if at all, and so isn't subject to the actual cashback amount etc0 -
