Default how to clean the hob

I've got loads of black cooking stains on my enamle hob. They have been on there a year or so (I know, i should have cleaned up as I went along but I'm not the only person in this household!)

Anyway, I' ve read through the tips on here and have tried soda crystal, biological washing powder, viniger, lemon j and mr muscle but its just welded on. any other ideas anyone! I'm at my wits end!!

is it white is it stainless steel what??

tried spontex?? its scratchy though so it might take the paint off if its a white hob

sandpaper works a treat as well if its stainless steel just on the burned bits though

if the worse comes to the worst you could try some paint stripper painted on with a kids paint brush

how long did you leave the biological powder mix on for ??

my friend has jsut blasted my kitchen for me including a very old casserole dish - glazed white pottery thing. he used mr muscle oven cleaner on it and its come up lovely. not sure if it would work well on the hob or not but might be worth a try. are you leaving the products to really soak into the stains?

mines white enamal too.
I left the bio powder on for a good hour or so.

I did try an aggie and kim trick of using crunched up foil but it scratched it, so i'm not sure about using sandpaper. what is spontex?

I'll try heating the hob I think?

cheers

I use the Mr Muscle kitchen cleaner on my hob, leave to soak for five minutes and wipe off with kitchen towel. As its stainless steel I then give it a quick spray of Windowlene and it comes up lovely.

was it the foam over cleaner that you would normally use inside the oven ndnot on the hob or was it the liquid spray for cleaning the surfaces?

you would need to leave the bio powder solution (very strong) on overnight at least

try it it should soften it and make it easy to lift off

Mr Muscle foam spray oven cleaner will usually get off difficult stains on the hob. May need to leave on for some time, even sometimes chipping away gently with a knife after cleaning and then reapplying the oven cleaner. Need to be careful of pilot lights though.

In desperation I paid good money for a bottle of Oven Pride (Asda stock it). It comes with a huge bag, you put the oven trays in it overnight and watch the burned on crud just melt away. There are a few stubborn spots but I'm happy.

I would recommend trying some of this on your hob, but perhaps do a patch test to make sure it doesn't melt the enamel or something.

Hiya

I used the Avon skin so soft bath oil stuff as suggested in another link with loads of uses for the stuff. i think the link was something to do with Avon SSS & mosquitos, and it cleaned off all those burned on stains and black marks a treat, just sprayed a bit onto a paper towel and gave it a rub, all gone. ;D
