Personally i think thats pretty ridiculous, I hold a Disabled National Concessionary pass, but have been turned down 3 consecutive times by the disability railcard team despite sending as much photocopied proof as I can possibly give them, they still demand a letter from 'my social worker' well I'm sorry but just because i'm disabled doesnt mean i need nor have a social worker.
Perhaps MSE can look into this?
East Coast just refunded me £25.00 that I was forced to pay to sit in First Class for a London to Leeds journey because their onboard team were too lazy to move some chavs from disabled seating.
^^^ I sent off a form with my DLA award letter and was given one without any trouble and I am neither wheelchair bound or Blind. Try again and send a cover letter stating you wish to speak to someone about the card if you are refused it as you have had problems applying?? might do the trick0 -
Hey guys,
I have found that usually if you ask they can give you a discount in most places for your carer to get in free.
The national bus pass is free to those who can provide a dr letter and gives you free bus pass in UK after 9:30 til 4pm.
Also the disabled railcard gives you and your carer 1/3 off rail tickets for £54 for three year cover.
If you have a disabled persons railcard their is an offer on gourmet card at the moment - from £70 down to £25 and that is also covering your partner when named. This gives you either 2 for 1, 25% off or 50% off the bill in alot of resturants/cafes all over uk.
National trust will provide a admit one card for carers when contacted in advance.
English Heritage will provide free enterance for carers.
There is a cinema exhibitors card you can get for £6.50 which allows enterance for free for the carer for a year in most cinemas uk.
zoo's often allow free enterance to carers- london zoo definately does.
legoland will give free enterance to carers
Brighton pavilion offers both carer and disabled discounts, as does Brighton wheel, Dome, theatre.
There is also a carers card provided by the council if you are eligble- this offers all kinds of discounts to the carers and they do not always have to be with you to redeem it, sometimes its just a nice treat as Brighton seem to be aware of all the hard work carers provide.
Hope this helps.
Thanks to all who have posted, it has been helpful.0 -

In case if you have a disabled child, does anyone know if you can combine Tesco clubcard vouchers with "carer goes free" scheme in Legoland (so that you just buy only 1 ticket with clubcard vouchers)? Thanks!0

in derby city they have a recreation to leisure passport scheme that costs about £6.50 for a year and you can have up to 4 free cards(for people who live in the same house as main cardholder) to go with the paid for card that gives each cardholder a discount on some activities and free swimming0
