So much for 100 people applying for 1 job

of reverse psychology at play. If I saw a job advert and I didn't think I was
100% suitable for it in terms of everything the employer was looking for,
I wouldn't apply. I'd just assume that there'd be loads of other applicants
who'd fit the description to the letter. I'm not defeatist or lacking in
self-confidence but I think we can pretty safely say that when jobs are
advertised nowadays, there are lots of other potential candidates,
whether they ultimately choose to apply or not.
If I was unemployed, I'd probably just give it a go, though./QUOTE]
Then you would get the posters on here responsible for recruiting, moaning about candidates applying for jobs who do not satisfy the person/job spec/ don't have the required qualifications or experience.
"They go straight in the bin" or "Can people not understand a simple instruction?" are examples of the frequent complaints from some HR people and recruiters who frequent these boards.
You are lazy, have a poor work ethic or bad attitude if you don't apply - or you are stupid and won't be considered if you do.
Seems you are damned if you do and damned if you don't!Pay rate - Not mentioned so far but I bet it's near minimum wage so another no.
And still the silence is deafening - the fact that two sixth formers are now doing the job speaks volumes!0 -
I would have given you the job description if I saw it, but I didn't.
Tbh saying about 6th formers doing the job. We had a 6th former on the cleaning team, and she was a good cleaner. It was a shame to loose her.0 -
I was tallking to a guy who runs a cleaning company the other day, he had been advertising for a cleaner for a new shop for 4 weeks - only 3 people applied and none turned up for the interview!0

For many, the fact that it was at a school would have been a turn off - many people would like regular pay throughout the year not some on again-off again, pro-rata arrangement.
The fact that it was also advertised as Manager/Receptionist as well. One is either a manager or the receptionist - what kind of job description was advertised?
The stranger the job title, the more limiting the hours and the rigmarole involved in getting CRB'ed would put most people off straight away...... Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
If I'd seen that job I'd have not replied as I'd have thought:
Do you want a manager, or a receptionist?
Part-time hours - can't live on that.
Performing arts - never done that, so wouldn't get a look in.0 -
If you only really knew how bad it is applying for jobs it's not luck I need but a miracle.
There are "miracles" out there, don't give up hope. My OH has been out of work since November. On Thursday he got the letter from DWP confirming his JSA had ended, shortly followed by a phone call inviting him to an interview on Friday. He got the job. Good money, good hours, reasonably local. I've lost count of how many jobs he's applied for over the 6 months and there have been times when we've despaired but you have to cling on to the belief that the right job is just around the corner. Keeping a positive frame of mind is so important.0
