I'm wondering if the data breach is a breach of my O2 contact? I know I'll have to look through it with a magnifying glass to find out. But just wondering if in general, if anyone knows if this sort of thing is covered?0

Mistakes happen; what I'm more interested in is O2's deliberate actions, which they plan to continue doing.
1. They're still going to send my number to a list of sites selected by them, without telling me which sites these are or giving me the option not to.
2. They're still going to meddle with the data that a site sends me - compressing images and inserting arbitrary bits of Javascript into HTML pages. As a Web developer this horrifies me - it's like the Post Office opening your mail and inserting "helpful" comments into your letters, in exactly the same font and ink as the original author used. Network providers should be a pipe - what comes out should be the same as what went in.

If you forget to pay your bill one time, should they terminate your contract and charge you termination fees ?0 -
No you can't cancel based on this.
This was yesterdays news aswell0 -
A few issues with this are:
O2 won't tell you who the 'trusted' sites are and on their blog they say that there hasn't been a breach of data according to the ICO but the ICO seem to say different.
The other thing that springs to mind here is if your number is shown to a third party what is there in place to stop them from doing anything with it?0 -
There is an easy way around this if you download and install Opera Mini.
It uses its own proxies which do not alter images etc and doesn't reveal your number.

If you're more technically inclined you can also run your own OpenVPN server and tunnel everything through that, support is even built into Android.0

This bit horrified me:O2 says it is normal for it to disclose numbers to sites with premium or adult content, or that are part of its Priority Moments discount service.
So they intentionally give your number to adult and "premium" websites (whatever they are)? How many O2 customers were aware of this then?0 -
