So basically they are trying to streamline 3 differing slightly bodies into 2? Sounds a good idea to me - especially if TS are taking over a lot of the CF functionsone of the famous 5

this is good news, people use consumer focus as a way to try an avoid debts with nonesense complaints.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

There is something to be said for specialist departments and the problem with TS is that they are local authority based and tend to stick to their own areas. The Govt has said that they will put some money saved towards TS but why not just keep something like the OFT which already has a national focus on many of the areas TS enforce. But perhaps shake it up etc
A report came out the other day from the NAO which indicates that TS departments are likely to lose lots of money and they have their own problems in organisation because there are so many TS departments but no one that single handedly controls them.
I am not sure handing a load of money to TS and expecting them to handle national problems is the answer - they lackthe staff and resources.
There needs to be a shake up no doubt and we need to merge more departments in order to create consistency and a clear place for people to go for help.
I do not think localism is the answer for consumer protection - there need to be national organisations dealing with national issues and companies and smaller regional organisations such as TS dealing with more local issues.0 -

Bad news for consumers, at a time when local councils are sacking staff and cutting budgets, they decide to pass the Customer Focus remit to Trading Standards and CAB's. Some CAB's are at risk of closure due to funding cuts and TS are understaffed, seems to me more a charter for big companies to rip people off even more knowing that both organisations will have limited capacity to take them on.0

I disagree, its done a lot more than other bodies charged with consumer protection. Ofgem is a bad jokebut it doesn'tcost much as its funded by some kind of levy from the industry I believe. This does nothing to dissaude people fom the view that it is too close to the companies it is supposed to police.
We can see who is more effective from the NPower example. Ofgem totally fudged it, coming up with an average of £6 payout. Consumer Focus, despite having no real teeth secured much higher recompense. I know who I want on my side as a consumer....Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0
