I know someone who works for Santander's IT operations in the UK. Even she doesn't recommend banking with Santander!!

It seems they have a lot of problems and the management aren't being very good at sorting them out. What makes it worse is when things go wrong they don't disclose fully and they treat customers like idiots.

It's going to come to the point where people are being advised to move away from Santander for their own safety and security.

This bank has successfully demonstrated countless times to be the worst bank ever. I have a loan with NatWest which is unfortunately being transferred to Santander later this year I think and I will do my utmost to ensure it is repaid early to avoid being a Santander customer.

Thank goodness for the articles on this site. As existing mortgage holders with Santander (we were with Abbey who of course changed to Santander) we have been deliberating on whether or not to take up the good offer we received for their credit card. We almost did this week but looking for reviews thought better of it when we looked at their customer service. They might have saved us a good bit of money but it wasn't worth it for peace of mind. Reading this article makes us so glad we tore up the forms.

Why has the monopolies commission not got involved with these clowns? Surely the must be laws in place to prevent them swallowing up UK high street banks and turning them into some kind of joke bank. I love the comments they make "this is an isolated incident, unusual, its because we have expanded to quickly". No its because your staff are either very clumsy or naturally stupid as it happens every other week in one form or another. Don't forget for the one story they can not cover up and gets out to the press the must be hundreds that are brushed under the carpet. If you are unfortunate to have a Santander account, start looking for a proper one with a professional bank as soon as......or risk loosing your ID details, money or worse.
  • I shall close my dormant account ASAP then.. though of course they have to order me a new debit card for security purposes before I can close it. How amusing.

I wish their current account wasn't the best buy for me! I'm keeping £2,500 in there and earning 5% (£8.18 a month) on it which is better than any of my savings accounts. Also having DP's salary paid into Halifax Reward to get their monthly £5. Hmmmmmmmm. Decisions, decisions. Admittedly I (personally) have no complaints about Santander... YET.
