Dual Sim Adaptor - Involves Cutting Sim Card - Anyone tried it successfully?
I am looking at a dual sim adaptor to save me having to carry round two phones (work and personal). From research on the internet, there are 2 types of adaptor:
1. You simply insert 2 sims into the adaptor and the adaptor into your phone (but needs space for the second sim inside your phone case - not all phones have space including mine). See example manufactured by Simore - http://www.simore.ch/en/two_sim_cards_in_one_mobile/dual_sim_card_black_2.php. 2. An alternative type requires you to cut your sims and insert in the second type of adaptor which then simply fits in the normal sim slot - see Simore example at: http://www.simore.ch/en/two_sim_cards_in_one_mobile/dual_sim_card_black_1.php
If anyone else is looking into this, I have used Simore to illustrate, but there are what appear to be identical adaptors for around £5 including postage on Ebay, rather than 30+ euros on the Simore website (cheap enough to buy, try and bin if it doesn't work out).
What I want to know is has anyone tried the type that require cutting your Sim card? And it you have, how did it work out?
It looks straightforward enough according to the instructions (they provide template stickers for you to cut round) but I have a slight concern as it seems from the pictures that you actually need to cut parts of the gold sim, rather than just cut it out (which for me has potential for disaster written all over it  ).
In the worse case scenario of the Sim not working, can you get a replacement sim from the network (and what could you say to explain why yours was destroyed - the truth may not be the best option!). I suspect that the actual cost of them is next to nothing to produce, but clearly it needs your number on it and networks are not normally known for their charity work ... also as one of the Sims is from work, I am really investigating the implications before going ahead (as the network may be easier to explain to than my manager!).
Your advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks

Anybody tried it please?

I have used a dualsim - no cut - version on a nokia with no problems, but since changing to a "newer" sim they dont work anymore, they keep saying "no sim". The older sim's seem OK
I have not tried a cut version yet but I am tempted, as I would like to have two sims in one phone.
The price of the cutter seems expensive, I would prefer to use them than a pair of scissors, but I dont know anyone with one.
Ebay seem to sell them and offer a "holder" for the cut sim if you revert to using just the sim again on it's own again.
Not much help I suppose.....let me know if you onvest in one and how you get on.

cost £4.48 posted.
It worked great on my nokia 6230i, switching between the 2 sim cards no problem direct from the menu that the sim card adds to the phone.
Unfortunalty, it doesn't work so well on my sony ericsson, and everytime I swtiched between sims, the phone would power down and then restart before swiching
So basically, if you run a nokia, it is great, run a SE - stay away.0 -
Hi Anon,
I dont know whether I'm missing the point here, so correct me if I get this wrong. In my view, the practicality of this problem getting solved is very bleak even if you use a dual sim adapter, i.e, when you consider receiving a call as the primary function of any phone.
Since no two sim cards will work at the same time from a single phone , you have to perform a manual switch to register and receive calls from the other sim.
I would rather take pains and carry two phones with me not to miss that important call from my boss while chitchatting with my g/f on the other phone on a Fri afternoon.
The other practical option is to "divert" to your personal number with call waiting option turned on, but things like SMS will not work.
Yes, sometimes you see, all these advanced technologies cannot find commonsensical solutions to our most simple problems. :-) Cheerio.0 -
Depends how you use your phones!!! My personal phone doesn't work in my office, so I have a voicemail saying "if it's urgent, try my other number or landline". Whereas I have no problem setting a divert from my work number onto my personal phone when I am on "personal" time.
of course, there're a couple of new phones just out (maybe not yet in the UK) that actually take two sims (one of them is physically like two phones glued back-to-back!)The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

Many horror stories posted here: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_d880_duos-reviews-2156.php
many user reports include crashing of the whole phone when using a particular Auzi sim card, I wonder what testing they have done before releasing such a product in Ausi and hope they do more better testing before its UK release. Samsung, that one brand !
The technical reason is very simple and anyone can try and figure out why it is difficult to design such a product - just try holding and use two phones together back to back simultaneously while both phones are active in call receiving mode (line on) . As I said earlier the success is very bleak for such a product.mountainchrisriver wrote: »0 -
There is a cheaper phone on the market that will carry two SIMs normally. It is the P168 and it is marketed as a clone of the Apple IPhone. There are several versions of it around.
I bought one recently on Ebay for about £75 and it is OK though it does not do as much as the Iphone. However it is unlocked and thus can use any SIM(thought you will have to search around for web settings). It is also bulkier. It does take two SIMS(it has two separate SIM slots) though that is not what i bought it for. The main source in the UK is Ebay but make sure you get a Uk seller as some of the Hong Kong sellers may attract problems with our customs firstly for tax and also for copying. All the web reviews of the phone are generally OK- and in fact the Iphone does not allow you to use two SIMs.0
