This motherboard will only run a 1200 or 1400 AMD processor - you will probably only get one of those via eBay or from an antique shop!

I would recommend a new motherboard AND a new processor.

Try a MSI KM3M or KM4M for about £30 - they have decent enough graphics/sound/network/usb etc built in.

A 2500ish AMD Sempron cpu will cost you about £50.

A fan to suit will cost you about £2.50

Have a look on eBuyer.com - you'll have to try hard to get better prices in my opinion.

might you not be better off with a new motherboard ??

like everyone says, if your going to replace the cpu hard drive and memory you would be better spending a little more and building a fresh new system.

I found this site very useful first time round but there are many that can be found through google

Ive had a lot of problems with Ebuyer so i personally wouldnt buy from them ever again. BUT i will be fair and say that they are cheap and very good value for money but when you do have a problem expect it to be a nightmare.
  • Yes I now avoid Ebuyer for this sort of thing
Personally I'd go for a motherboard bundle from Novatech - eso if this is your first time

  • I personally wouldn't buy anything under a P4 2.8GHZ spec for a desktop. You can get a decent package deal - often cheaper than DIY. Here's a good site for PC parts to give you an idea of prices: http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/

I use https://www.microdirect.co.uk for computer components quite a bit. I've never had problems with them.

  • Hi,

If you do decide to build a new system, and its your first major computer build, its worth looking at barebones systems. There are quite a number available, ranging from cheap and cheerful to top of the range Shuttle systems.

Usually the manufacturer of the barebones provide lists of compatible components to fit. So you can select from the list they provide. Buying a barebones system doesn't seem to cost any more (unless you buy one of the more expensive barebones), and saves a little bit of assembling time.

I've built an AOpen XCube - it came with a good 'how to assemble it' booklet.
