Elite Calls - Any use?

Hello,

Just found this forum and I am hoping someone can offer any advice?

I subscribe from BT but have been approached by Elite Calls (service provider) they are Tier 1 and so if any network faults a BT Openreach engineer will repair the fault/looks after the network.

They also organise the transfer from BT to Elite, the cost is £85 yearly fee which is rental etc., then each month you pay for your calls. All seems a bit too good to be true.

No before I jump I'd like to hear others thoughs especially if with Elite.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi

The recommendation is keep BT line. But if you really want a cheap package then you can get broadband and line rental packaged together at one cheap price. eg Tiscali both for total £15 pm. Talk Talk are also cheap. But if you change LR from BT then you are forced to use your new phone line provider for all calls. In which case you could spend a lot more on calls than if you had BT as LR.

Have a good look, take your time.

You might like to read their T&C ;)

10.2 The contract will continue for the minimum period and shall automatically renew for periods of 12 months on the expiry of the minimum period (each such period shall be a "Renewal Period") unless and until terminated under clause 20.1.
10.3 If the customer breaches the contract after the seven day cooling off period and during the minimum period or renewal period, the customer must pay Elitecalls £395 + VAT (per line) for each case of breach.

20.1 This contract may be terminated in writing by either you or us for convenience by giving notice within 30 days of the end of minimum period or any renewal period.
20.2 If the customer wishes to completely terminate their contract with Elitecalls they must pay the early termination fee of £395 + VAT per line, the customer will also forfeit any service charges and line rentals paid in advance.

Plus you pay for all your calls, you dont get any inclusive ones.

  • Thank you everyone for your feedback and I am going to take your advice and not sign up, I need to look around a lot more. I really did get talked into signing up with them seemed so cheap.

I think we are best to go with one of the well know providers like Tiscali. I'll probably be about them shortly.

    Elite were called Platinum........

    Yeah, that's definitely the one.

Been on BBC Watchdog and other media output. Yes, one to avoid like the plague.

Tiscali & TalkTalk are famous for their dreadful service, though they don't usually rip you off like Elite / Platinum.

  • I have been in the 'clutches' of Elite Calls since May 2007. They seem to pile on extra charges at will. Opting out is the biggest scam / penalty, at £390 + vat. I might have found a loophole though. Are they only allowed to 'claim' business lines, or can they grab residential lines also? any body know the answer? Elite Calls infered on their first approach to me, that they were part of BT and that was why I could keep my existing number. I later found they were not a part of BT, because BT were trying to lure me back. Wish I had seen this info'about Elite eighteen months ago.
