Weekly Flylady Thread 31st March 2008

Options
Welcome to the weekly Flylady thread. If you need help organising your week when it comes to housework, or just the motivation to do the dreaded housework tasks you have to do, come and join us, hopefully make it a little easier. You never know, you might start to enjoy it!

Following requests to start things steadier for new members who did not realise the tasks list wasn’t a must do, just an encouragement. There will now be level 1, 2 and 3. Level 1 being very basic it has been requested that this is just one task per day, level 2 in the middle, up to 3 which is more advanced and time consuming. If you want to do level 2 you add the tasks on level 1 with the level 2 tasks, if you want to do level 3 you add the tasks on, easy peasy. Choose a level to aim for but be realistic, if you’ve got a busy day on or are just starting etc aim for level one, if you get higher then great, if not then not to worry its only suggestions. Every room comes back around next week. Trust me some days I'll only be doing level one myself.

THESE LISTS ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS AND NOT A MUST DO LIST, ALWAYS WELCOME TO POST AND FOLLOW YOUR OWN.

Also adding a declutter mission each day. Another one where it’s up to you if you want to do it or if you need to. This follows requests from members who are looking to declutter. Fling boogies, hotspot clearing, cupboard sorts, drawer sorts etc will all be on this list. Any problems with this of any suggestions do please let me know.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are any areas which if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

27 Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a binbag and whizz around the house finding 27 items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
5GC five minutes gardening.. make it lovely for your spring flowers and sowing

Ok here goes this week

This week as the children are off school we are doing a little list for them so they can get involved and help the parents. For the sake of my sanity we have mummies and daddies.. feel free to change it in your own list to whatever you wish! but it has to be nice.
Usually we continue doing this ourselves and feeling unappreciated for the hard work we put in to keep the house looking nice and safe for our families and it would be lovely if the young people woukd be kind enough to help.. I know the minimeister helps and the mini-nicki does too sometimes.. So.. if you are under 18 then the green lists are yours!!!
And on behalf of myself I'd like to thank my children and everyone elses children for taking the time to join in.. we come to blubber at your school productions and see your hard work, we come talk to your teachers and are proud of your achievements, we help with your homework and teach you to tie your laces and blow your nose.. and we hope you enjoy taking part and that you can learn from helping us too, this is what we do.. day in and day out..

Extras
  • Clean oven/hob if you must.. *rolls eyes*
  • HHI ..
  • Clean windows
  • treat the pets for fleas!!! This is prime time for them to be developing an infestation.. the last thing you need in your house! .. left on in case you were lazy like me and missed this!
  • Go play a game with the children who have helped you today!!
Childrens list.
  1. Clear and wipe the table
  2. Load the dishwasher (DW) if you have one
  3. Can you fill the washing machine (WM) with things that are all the same colour and switch it on?? This is a very important thing to learn.. many big clever daddies struggle with this job.. even our daddy.. so if you can do this.. you are cleverer than him!
  4. If you are a bigger little person could you wipe over the fronts of the kitchen cupboards and fridge/freezer/washing machine.. sometimes you need to check the insides too as they get a bit sticky..

Clear a hotspot
Vacuum hall and stairs
Extras
  • Wipe woodwork in the hall and stairs
  • Binbag dance.. fling a binbag of rubbish.. I don't care where it goes so long as it is out of your house!.. and that doesn't mean you can stash it in the shed or garage or the car boot!
  • Make certain ALL the house clocks are saying the right time.. replace any batteries that need replacing!
  • I think the children who have been most helpful today should decide what you are having for dinner.. and that doesn't mean a takeaway.. we will consider that for the weekend if you are doing a fabulous job!!! Maybe if they are big enough they can help or better still cook for you!!
Childrens list.
  1. Sort out all the shoes.. make sure there are 2 of them all and put them nicely on the shelf or in the box. Encourage the person who has the most to get rid of a few pairs they never wear!
  2. Oh.. I think you'll like this.. everyone gets a carrier bag.. and spends 5 mintues running all over the house putting rubbish in it.. not other peoples things just rubbish, scrappy papers, junk mail, used envelopes and things like that.. after 5 minutes we weigh all the bags and see who has the heaviest bag. The winner gets a treat (and so does everyone else!)
  3. Pick up all your own things from the front room and put them away in their homes
  4. Water any plants in the house.. I always forget so this is my childrens job usually.
  5. If you are a bigger little person could you vacuum the floors once they are clear of stuff?

  • Clear the top of a bedside cupboard/chest of drawers or shelf

Childrens/Spare rooms - Friday
Now it is Mummies time to help YOU!!! Today we are going to tidy your room.. if there are more than 1 room that needs doing.. I have 4 bedrooms for my children. We will choose the one with the youngest children in first... their rooms are usually tidied quicker and more easily.. and we will help the older ones a bit later.. after a cuppa.. or it might have to be another day but we will come help if you want!
Level One
Clear the floor
Level Two
Drag the junk from under the bed.. the children should be home today so they can do this!
Sort out a box of things to give to the local nursery for the little children.. or for charity shop.. or a friend.. FLING!! The local GP surgeries, hospitals etc often need nice toys for the sick children..
Level Three
If they are able the children can vacuum their own rooms!! 3 is grown up enough!!
While the children are home.. go through their wardrobe and get rid of everything that no longer fits.. as they are being so wonderful and helping they can try the things on so you can be sure before moving them down a child or moving them on.

Will try to be in this week as well as decorating DD's room and trying to get things sorted for her birthday on Saturday  I don't know whether I should really get her something to open Saturday morning apart from a card or not  She's getting her room decorated, and a new-to-her bed delivered on Thursday (so we don't spend the weekend putting it up - ex is coming to help ;) ). Might get her something to go in her room? Don't know what just yet but I'll come up with something.

Off to do the ironing of blouses...I shouldn't have washed them yesterday grubby or not! :o

Don't you know I didn't clean the top of one of the cupboards when we moved in (9 months ago) as I just couldn't face it, it was so high and dirty. I still haven't cleaned it, it's filthy and is my cupboard top of shame.... Might actually have to look at it tomorrow:eek:

I'm in and house needs me to be in not just reading the thread and marvelling at you all being so busy! But the thread is so entertaining to a lazy lurker.

Fingers crossed for cleaning not lurking ...
