Hi, I really hope someone can help me with this, I have been tearing my hair out for weeks!
My wedding DVD has somehow become corrupted  There doesnt appear to be any scratches but some of the files have become unreadable. I have tried all the tricks with polishing/toothpaste/brasso/vasaline but no luck, still cannot read those files  I even bought Elprime which claimed to read unreadable files, didnt work
I hope all is not lost cos I have found the actual vts files on our old desktop. The problem is they are in 4 pieces (well, 5 but one of the files is the menu were you could click to go to different sections, not bothered about that) The files are in .mpg format but I dont seem to have the .vob files anywhere
Does anyone know of any way I could get these 4 files together so it all runs together? I have tried so many programs but nothing has worked. I think the programmes need the .ifo and .vob files but I dont have those
If anyone could help you would make my day! I have NTI cd and dvd maker installled on my laptop and could also get hold of nero express 6 if that helps.

mpg is different to vob, you will need to join the files by using
Virtualdubmod http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=65889
and then open a file then click on direct stream copy and then append segment and add each file it all takes about 2mins then click on save as avi then with http://www.dvdflick.net/ convert to DVD files and burn to DVD this takes longer but is super simple.
A how to for joining http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/virtualdub_join_avi.cfm
Thanks Aknot, I'll give it a go

Hi
to say I am completely lost on this virtualdubmod is the understatement of the year
I cant see anything about stream or segments?
I'd be really grateful for any help with it

Ok Open Virtual Dub Mod,
Then, File, Open Video File and open the first part of your film.
Now click on Video, Direct Stream Copy.
Now click on File, Append Segment and load the second clip, then repeat until all parts are loaded then click on File, Save As, and give a name of 00001 if you wish.
Heres is another tutorial http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/articles/article_virtualdubmod_joinavi_page1.html
Hi, can you think of any reason why the append segment would be greyed out? I'm stuck again :sad:0 -
yep, the clip is in the preview box, but i cant click on append segment.

To my knowledge VirtualDubMod is not suitable for joining up MPEG files in this way. AVI's yes, but its MPEG support is limited.
So, just to confirm these files are in MPEG format with a .mpg extension after the file name yes?
For doing exactly this I have used a program called TMPGEnc Pro. Its not free but luckily it offers a 14 day trial - http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tp.html
To join up video files in this program you go to File>MPEG Tools>Merge and Cut and with this you should be able to join up the files in the right order and merge them into one.0 -
No scratches and nothing wrong with the surface and is not your player, then i'd say it is a cheap dvd and the dye is/has decayed
You can't be the only person that has a copy?
I have seen on google once something about dvd information recovery, but you may loose some of the corrupt minutes or have to rebuild the datastream
Recovery is something you want to do sooner rather than later.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0 -

You're a star
Well, the movie is now in one piece but I still have a problem
The video part is running very jumpy, and is a bit out of sync with the audio, is there anything I can do about this?0 -
when playing the individual non-merged vobs are they out of sync? They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

The files were not .vob, they were .mpg but no, they were not out of sync before I merged them together.
