Hello everybody. I will be changing my car in the next couple of months and my max budget is £5k. I'm looking at mondeo's/vectra's from late 2003. Probably 1.8 petrol variants (lowest insurance group for these models and I don't do the mileage to justify a diesel). As far as mondeo's go I'm looking at the mk111 and for vectra the design that TopGear detest.

To my question. Would any mse'rs out there have any qualms about buying a high mileage (70k plus) model? I'm assuming that to get this kind of mileage in a relatively young car they would more than likely to have been driven my modern day road warriors.

look forward to your feedback.

  • Both are decent enough cars to be honest. Mondeo is probably more relaiable as the zetec engines are sweet.
  • Don't know anything about cars myself but the motoring guy in the sat Telegraph always recommends Mondeos.

  • i would go for the mondeo over the vectra, ford usually hold their money better than vauxhall.and i think the vauxhall seems to date much quicker than the ford acdross the board.

Mondeo handles slightly better but is significantly noisier and rides harder. The Vectra is slightly softer and much more comfortable over bumps.

I bought an 04 plate TDCi Mondeo with 102,000 on the clock and it looks and drives like new.

Make sure you get one with full main dealer service history - there's plenty about with it.

Owned a couple of Mondeos and have driven Vectras as hire cars. Thought overall the Mondeo was the better car of the two, certainly handled much better. Vectra certainly gave a softer ride but always felt as though the steering wheel was connected to the front wheels with rubber bands !
