A warning for you all
I had a letter advising of an overdue debt with samedaycash.co.uk / chequespread plc. I had NOT heard of them before or had any money from them! When I called them, the lady told me that "they had some trouble with people's ID's being stolen" and that I had to report it to the police and complete a form she would send me and I would hear no more about it.
I called the local police who informed me that no crime had been committed against me, and that they were "trying it on".
The police advised me to write to them to tell them that it is up to them to sort out as the crime is against them not me.
However, I am now concerned
1. that my ID may be being used fraudulently
2. that my credit rating may be adversely affected.
If anyone has any advice or experience of this - would appreciate your comments.

This is a very common scam. Samedaycash.co.uk / chequespread plc simply TOLD you that someone else was using your details, to try to get you to confirm those details with them, so that they could steal your ID.
You have no more chance than normal that anyone is actually using your details.
If you are worried about ID theft, the best thing you can do is to make sure none of your details are out there - shred your name and address on every envelope before you throw it away (cutting it up small is just as effective!)
Relax and enjoy life, in the mean time!

Hi. I work for SameDayCash.co.uk and we’re extremely concerned to read these comments, which are wholly inaccurate. Harobed, I’m sorry that you may have been a victim of identity theft. It also sounds like the advice you received from our customer service team may not have been as comprehensive as normal.
The fact your local police station advised you that we were ‘trying it on’ is most concerning. It is certainly not the case and we are a responsible lender with a consumer credit licence from the OFT. We are also a member of the FLA and take any abuse of our service very seriously.
We have numerous systems in place to detect and combat fraud but, like any provider of financial services, we occasionally experience criminals trying to use stolen identities. These cases are extremely rare, but you may have been contacted because our fraud systems picked up some suspicious activity involving your details.
When you report such a matter to your local police station they should give you a crime reference number and we will be happy to use that in order to provide them with any details required for an investigation. You should also talk to CIFAS, the UK’s fraud prevention agency, for advice. The number is 0870 010 2091 and you can register an impersonation attempt which will help protect you for further potential attempts to misuse your personal details.
I was the victim of identity fraud at the turn of the year and what the police said is correct. There has been no crime commited against you. The crime has been committed against the bank or in this case the credit company. It this their cash which has been stolen not yours. The police will not give out a crime number to you. However what you do need to be aware of is what details the fraudsters have of yours. If they have a bank card number etc then cancel it immediately.0 -
If samedaycash felt able to contact you under Data Protection rules,to help you, they can,no doubt, give you details of which documents or CARD details they accepted, (No documents?,as it was online and this is in line with their company policy.) I wonder if this was just a clumsy attempt by sdc to confirm your i/d..a bit late some might say..To summarise, samedaycash gave someone a risky online instant loan with no hard documentary proof?,now they want the OP to help them recover their losses.I wouldnt be surprised if the Police are not cooperative.
Re telling you to get a crime number,( so SDC can gain permission to give info to the Police),surely if a crime has been committed, the Police do not need to ask for cooperation, they can demand it.
Re your quote, SDC ,of the OP being contacted because of suspicious activity-MY BANK sometimes contacts me about suspicious activity (usually if I have booked a flight) and they do not ask me to report it to the Police ( you are not the OP s bank) and surely you should have contacted the OPs bank if a card/bank was involved,or advised the OP to report it to their Bank.
Three questions:
Can SdCash please tell the OP the exact law that prohibits them from releasing the information to the Police, during the course of a lawful investigation?
And can Sdcash tell us the exact "name" of the crime thats been commited against the OP,so that he can specify it, (as there isnt any loss) when he goes to the Police?
And SDC,why have you not made any reference to "Chequespread"?.0 -

(Edit-2nd April-Samedaycash removed the above post but did not reply)
OP,what telephone number did they give you to ring, was it their "Customer Service Team" as stated by SDC? Or was it "Chequespread", who list "debt recovery" as one of their occupations, and whos last two accounts are overdue according to Companies House? Or SDC, who only have one lot of accounts overdue?0 -
My wife has also just received a Bill for £250 for the loan of an initial £200 from Samedaycash.co.uk / chequespread plc. Without doubt, she has never contacted or requested money from this outfit and so something has gone wrong. A check of all her accounts show no credit of £200 being made.
Before we make the initial contact with this outfit, what should the proper course of action be?
All correspondance by mail or telephone?
Contact financial watchdogs?
Contact her own bank / Building Society to warn them about possible identity theft?
Should she give any additional personal details (date of Birth) etc, or request that they supply the information on the application?

Guess what?
I HAVE had a loan from themand have tried to contact them tonight (26/3/08) to get it extended, phone number they gave me has 1 digit missing, none of the email addresses work, and the website is down.
Not looking good for the contents of my bank account is it?0 -
I also have a loan and was panicked to find the website was down. I have found another phone number which gets you through to sdc. it is 08708034450. There is also an email address which is lucy.tyler@samedaycash.co.uk.
hope this is helpful xx:o0 -
don't they have to be regulated by the FSA?0
-
They have been down all week.
I have found SDC to be very useful. I don't have a loan with them now, but was hoping to take one out for a couple of days, but their website has been down all week, so can't.
Does anyone know what's going on? Is it maintenance, or have the gone belly up?0 -
They are still answering the phone.
Does anybody know what is going on ?0
