Cutting the price of NTL bills

Options
I have been scratching my head as to how to reduce our monthly NTL bill. We currently have a talkanytime package for the phone, 1Mb broadband for the computer and a Digital Family Package for the TV. This equates to about £900 a year!

I went on the uswitch website and had a look at phone companies that were cheaper. I found one that was.
I then rang NTL back using 0800 0520243 as this is the number you need to cancel your packages.
The guy I spoke to was not very helpful to start with but when I asked if he could price match he did more than I could have hoped. He gave me free TV for a year and then almost half price Internet access for a year.
I am not in a contract nor are there any conditions attatched.
I made sure I had a reference number in case of the need to refer back to my conversation.

My wife and I were amazed. We have just saved about £460 off our bill for trying to price match a phone saving of £160.

Try it-it worked for us.[/FONT]

We're on NTL and used to have the Talk 24 Package for £24.99 and Broadband for £17.99 per month. We have recently changed to the line rental for £10.50 (you get free local weekend calls with this package) and use 18899 at a cost of 3p per call (not mobiles). We also contacted NTL and had the Broadband reduced to £9.99 per month - for exactly the same package that we were paying £17.99 for.

Give it a try because we're certainly better off by doing this. There are various threads on this site to give you other options.

What do you say to them to get the cheap Broadband price? We ditched the cable TV altogether and just have telephone and internet, plus pay £1.75 per month to have mobile number bar on the phone (believe me, the best £1.75 I have spent to save money with a chat-happy teenager in the house)

When we changed, I told then that I'd seen Broadband advertised for £9.99. The rep told me that this was for new customers only and then he told me that we could upgrade to 3mg Broadband. I told him that I was a good customer and asked him if he could check if we used Broadband enough to warrant upgrading! I also told him that I was considering moving to another Provider. He checked and told me that we didn't use over the 1mg - you use more if you download films etc. He then told me that as a good will jesture that he would put us on the £9.99 tarriff!

I think that you've got to chat to the customer services rep to ask them what they're going to do to keep your custom. If they call your bluff tell them that you want to cancel and within a couple of days you usually get someone from NTL phoning you to ask why you're leaving. When we did this a year ago we ended up with Talk 24 free for 6 months!

My Boys love to chat on the phone too - but with 18899 all that it costs to a landline is 3p. (That's to a landline) You can also view your itemised bill on the Internet so you can see if they're phoning mobiles and other numbers - and give them a warning!
I haven't used the mobile call barring yet - but I can't see why you can't continue with it and still use 18899.

  • Hi all,

I am new stumbled across this site (which i think is fantastic) and have been reading with great interest. I hope i am posting in the right thread.

I am hoping for some advise on how to reduce my NTL bill.

At the moment we are paying around £120 a month in digital tv and telephone and desperately want to cut the bills down.

A breakdown of our monthly costs are

£30 - 2 x extra boxes (which will be going after christmas, they are in 2 bedrooms but will be replaced my freeview!)
£38.0 - Family packs + movies/sports (We are getting sky sports free for a year)
£9.5 - 1 additional line rental + standard 321+mobile ( we have the additional line is for internet access)
£3.0 - Non direct debit and fully itemised bill

At the moment we pay £80.5 without call charges. After christmas without the extra boxes we will be paying £50.5, can anyone see how i can reduce this anymore.

Our call charges are around £30 a month (there is a teenager in the house, but he will be getting a mobile for christmas so hopefully the call charges will be lower!)

On another note i received a call from NTL offering my broadband (bb) for £8.5 a month for 512mb. Now i currently use AOL, for £16.99 for anytime access, is this a good deal to swap for and have people had good service using NTL bb?

I'll be grateful for any advise.

    Many thanks
