Tap water experiences

The consumer council for water is looking for people's view on tap water in restaurants before they launch a campaign in the next few weeks.
The campaign will ask 'free tap water' friendly restaurants to display a sticker. And all of us to be loud and proud about drinking it.
At the moment they're looking for feedback and I thought MoneySavers would like to help.
Do you have any experiences you want to share?
Well you can write them here or
Give the Consumer council for water feedback directly website.

Our local 'Posh' Restaurant will not serve 'Tap Water' & always supplies 'Bottled Water', stating they cannot verify the quality of the 'Tap Water', yet provides 'Tap Water' ice cubes!
I'm taking the OH there tomorrow for Valentines (Working Thursday) & I'll try them again0 -
One foodie-pub told me that the tap water was "unfit for human consumption" because it came out of old lead pipes. When asked where the ice cubes came from, they admitted it was from tap water but said that it didn't matter because the drink would be finished before the ice melted. Nice try!0

Pizza Express have no problem with giving you tap water, they even put ice and a lime slice in it.Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH0 -
Bella Italia isn't at all sniffy about you ordering tap water.
Presentation varies, sometimes by the glass, others in a jug. Always with ice & often with lemon.
Great if you're using Tesco Deals Vouchers which can't be used against drinks! :money:Worse things will have happened in the world today..."The only thing that really matters, it to love and to be loved."0 -
Everywhere me and my missus go we have tap water...nothing wrong with asking for it either!!
I even sit in my local pub with a pint of lager and a pint of tap water while watching the footie!0 -
Our favourite local restaurant serves tap water and doesn't charge but adds 15p donation to a clean drinking water charity to your bill (projects in developing world to bring clean water to those communities without). There are details in the menu about the charity (including registered charity number etc) and regularly updated info on how much has been raised. We think this is a great idea and would love more eateries to adopt this policy. Maybe a campaign should be started to encourage more places to do this?!0

I understood all restaurants/bars in GB were obliged by law to provide a glass of tap water on request, whether or not one is buying any other food or drink. And I've successfully argued on that basis in various establishments over many years!0

Do you ever see some sticky looking stuff in your glass after you're finally served it? :rotfl:
I never argue with restaurant staff before I'm done, because I've heard too many stories of what they do to payback.0 -
We always order tap water, only been rejected once if I recall, but I can't remember where it was.
Tap water should definitely remain free. I don't think a sticker campaign is really necessary because 99% of places I've been to will serve you tap water if you ask. However, it doesn't hurt if they have money to do it. It seems the money could be used in a more effective way though?0 -
Hi!
My hubby and I have just been to Paris for a weekend, and were offered tap water in every restaurant we ate in - in most cases a carafe just appeared on the table without having to ask for it.
Very much like the idea of using tap-water "sales" to raise awareness/ funds for overseas water action.0
