In pursuit of happiness...for real this time! Donner_kebab's debt diary!

Righteo then...here I go again!
Many of you will know from some of my more recent posts on here, that I was chosen for the Debt Makeover with Martin on Lorraine Kelly's show! Martin is gonna be giving me some advice on how to tackle my debt and I plan to account for all my money incomings and outgoings for the year and beyond! I on gonna be on the show tomorrow morning and I can't wait to see it! Gonna be very odd seeing myself on the tele but I can't wait! This whole thing of going on the tele and meeting Martin and being the case study for the year has really hit me hard! I was on the board on Monday asking if this sick ill feeling I had been experiencing ever since I completed the questionnaire for the show, was normal...luckily it appears so! I thought that I had had my lightbulb moment before, but that was just a little flicker! This is it now...full beam lightbulb here! Going on the show and talking it over, has really made me realise how my whole life needs to change, so that a year down the line when this is over, I hope to have paid off some debt and if this continues, I hope to be debt free a few years down the line! I have decided to start a new diary on here and to continue on with it throughout the year so I can keep track of how I am doing and hopefully, how far I have come and how much I have achieved!

So here's a little bit about me...
My real name is Donna and I am 28 years old. I am a single mum to Emily, a beautiful little madam...saying that she is 11 years old and nearly as tall as me already...scary! She is truly amazing and the reason I am doing this now...I so badly want to one day be debt free so that we can have a better life as opposed to having one whereas I am spending all my money on debt repayments and interest...Grrrrrr! A lot of my debt stems from a very bad relationship with my ex. After we split, he went bankrupt and the lovely banks chased me for all the debt as we had joint accounts and cards so even though he ran it all up, I am left to pay the price! Lovely guy...I picked a good one there! Anyway, I work full time in I.T (yawn!) so might not be able to post on here as much as I would like to, but I hope to get on here each day to give a little update to my DFW buddies! I have approx £17,000 worth of debt and will be listing all of that on here as soon as I have the final figures debt wise! I haven't put anything onto any cards for a few weeks now so hopefully when all the statements come through, I will have a clearer picture.

So that is me! Phew...gonna give my fingers a rest now...ouch!

  • Well done Donna - you are so brave going on the telly!!! I would be too scared to do that - the thought of my mum seeing it would petrify me.

I'm lucky enough to have a job where I have telly access tomorrow so I'll be watching you with earnest.

Onwards and upwards for you  and onwards and downwards for your debt:beer:

    Good luck

  • Heya! Tell me about it! I had to tell my dad on Saturday as I didn't want him finding out watching the tele! He couldn't believe it...poor bloke! I felt awful...he only thought it was a couple of thousand max! Oh well, better to be honest and have it out in the open! Felt better for it really. He said I should go bankrupt but I said I am not gonna let one failed relationship haunt me for the rest of my life...hell no!

  • Thanks guys! The whole TV thing was very sureal! Watching them on the tele a week before and then before I know it, I am whisked up there to be on it myself! Had a fab time though...could get used to that! Hope to hear back from them in a few days with regards to what to do next...I know the first thing was to contact the main credit reference agencies to find out if I am still linked on their records to my ex, as I know he was using my address to get credit just before the bankrupt order went through...mmmmm!
