Medical records

Has anyone ever requested there maternity medical records??

Ive just sent a letter to my local hospital requestiong mine from when I gave birth in august 07. I had a lovely birth and then it all went very wrong for me, hence why I want to see my notes. I had a blood tranfusion in another hospital and when I went to leave they had lost my records:mad: Anyway I was really wanting to know how long it takes and at what cost?

I know someone who requested their medical records and it cost £50. I'm not sure whether you can just request maternity or whether you have to have the whole lot

the details are on page 6 of the aspergers support thread - it looks like it is £50 but there is a post by LondonDiva explaining why it costs this much.

  • Hi, I it can take up to 28 days as the request to view your notes has to be sent to the maternity department where you had the baby. An appointment will be offered to you to go in and view. This should be free. If you would like your records copied then that costs £50.00. Thanks.

Some time ago I asked the question regarding getting my records of my sons birth. A memeber posted a link to a letter template they had sent to the hospital.

I cant seem to find that template anymore, I was hoping if the same kind member reads this might send it to me again. I got my sons records but have decided to get my daughters now too.

I think the member name was snaggles??

    Many thanks.

I'd recommend contacting the PALS office at the hospital.
I did this, made an appointment and went through my notes with the Head of Midwifery at the hospital. We discussed where things went wrong. They apologised, offered to help if I wanted to take it further. I felt a whole load better afterwards and best of all it was free!

    I got mine,

i lost my 2nd baby and when it came to the d n c it all went horribly wrong, and the surgeon pierced my womb... to cut a long story short...

You need to ring medical records and ask them for the address to write to to request them and how much it would cost (£10 in my case but this was 10 years ago).

This request cannot be refused as it's now your legal right to see a copy of what was written about you in any organisation now.
Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?
