hi bells bells and spl it feels great thinking about getting rid of the mortgage and not the car loan/ visa card/overdraft doesnt it ?

i have to admit i havnt set myself a target to pay off this year (maybe i should) i am currently saving towards paying off the mortgage quicker having rainy day savings savings for a new car etc etc i know though that every pound i pay extra to the mortgage is gonna be less money i have to give to the bank and the earlier i can think of all the fun i'm gonna have when i retire so i will deff be looking to pay as much as i can to the mortgage

good luck everyone on their journey if there is even half the amount of support on here (and from what i have experianced so far the support is just as much) as there is on the dfw board were all sorted

    hi elantan :D

yes absolutely agree it is a very good feeling to think about not having a mortgage one day and i am now think about it before I spend anything i will have to be careful that this does not become a serious obsession :rotfl:

to be honest before i read the thread i had not got a figure in mind just knew wanted to pay off as much as i could, but actually putting a figure down in black and white for me and others to see has made me more determined guess i am the kind of person to thrive on hitting a target!!

it is also great to be with like minded people as just really helps the motivation

    here's to a great 2008 cheers :T

sorry - probably an ovious question but i must have missed the thread - what is the photo idea??
  • I'm new here too! I must admit I'm more of a lurker than a poster (here, OS & DFW). I don't have a target in mind, I just want to pay whatever I can. I have set up a standing for £100 and the first overpayment should be taken tomorrow, then I will move over as much as I can at the end of every month. This month I have a small amount of credit card balance to pay off, but at least I now at least a hundred pounds will be knocked off every month.
  • I mostly lurk too, on the same forums. I suppose I've been a MFW in practice about 18 mths now, when a 10 year savings scheme matured and I was able to pay off about a third of my mortgage. Since then I've been overpaying it every month. My real goal for this year is to get rid of it altogether, but since that depends on how my work shares perform, I've set a goal of reducing it to £20K by the end of a year, which means a £600 overpayment per month.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Good luck to you all:j:j:j:j:jand welcome:money:
  • I've been a lurker on here for over a year but only registered yesterday.

I will be aiming to overpay by £343.20 in 2008. I know this looks a small amount but it is all I can afford (£28.60 per month).

With the £2 coins and the mortgage pig (old coffee jar!) it should be more.
