What do you think about this seller? Advice needed please

I bought an item from this seller 2 weeks ago, did read his feedback before I decided to do that, there were some neutrals and negatives for very slow delivery, but as I wasn't in a hurry for the item and he had an item that I was looking for and couldn't find I decided to bid. His feedback by that time was 98.6% as i remember. I checked it now again and it dropped to 98% and people complaining for non delivery. I have heard somewhere that Paypal buyer protection doesn't apply if sellers have less than 98% positive, so if his feedback goes down will I still be protected and will Paypal refund me if I don't get the item? Wrote couple of messages to the seller, no reply, I know I can start the dispute item not received now, but I do want the item not refund and ok to wait, just wondering if I'll be able to get money back if it doesn't arrive at all?

This type of thing happened to me earlier in the year. Feedback at the time I bought was fine then a string of negatives. Either the crook had suddenly turned bad, or they had hijaked an accounts. Start a dispute now, that in itself takes ages to sort out.

I haven’t heard that rule but, if the listing showed PayPal protection at the time of your purchase, then you should be covered regardless of what happened since.

PayPal may be slow but in my experience they honour the guarantee and will refund your money eventually.

    Get your claim in asap.

the seller seems to have dissapeared but maybe he/she has become ill? or gone on holiday?

I cant believe someone would start scamming buyers after over 11k feedback!
  • I would start the dispute anyway as like someone else said this takes ages anyway, and sometimes this is enough to get seller to sent item, i personally haven't heard the 98% thing before either. Good luck and what with xmas post it may just have been really delayed
  • some of the bad feedbacks from others are for items bought at the end of November not delivered by xmas so the seller cant really blame post for all late deliveries. in your case, it may just be slow posting, then caught in xmas post. try emailing seller again and try to resolve without dispute if possible.

Jings,in his "feedback left for others" he says "item lost in post not our fault" nearly everytime.................He also has far too many feedback withdrawals for my liking (should have been on watchdog!)
I thought like previous poster he may have been taken ill or something but he was aware of all the negs when they started so I don't think its that.
I would open a dispute NOW.
The 98% rule applies only to the Top tier of Buyer protection up to £500 when the auction is listed ,i.e a seller with less than 98% at the time of listing will not have the Paypal protection showing on the listing.
Just to be safe take a screenshot /print of the listing you won showing the protection.

    Edited re Paypal protection

  • Now if the seller was really smart, he could null all the feedback that mentions Paypal disputes...

Excuse my ignorance but what does that mean?

You are not allowed to mention disputes in feedback......no idea why!
So ebay would remove any feedback mentioning Paypal disputes,if someone reports them.
