Gawd, yeah. Really bloody annoying. Have now banned my kids from using their shuffles and promised them drag & drop mp3 players instead. Same with my hubby's sony mini disc player, takes hours. I'd never buy ipods or sony players again :mad:0 -

Dont want to sound patronising but I think you may be missing the point re: ipods. The transfer speed is dictated a little by the device but majorly by the USB ports you are using - if transfer/update feels really slow it is most likely becuase your USB ports ahve defaulted to USB, not USB2. It is not likly to improve by changing the player to a native USB "Drag and Drop" player.
Sony minidiscs are slow, especially with the SonicStage or MusicMatch software, so you will defnitiely get a beneift there, but I would check that your USB is OK first (a lot of people have PCs that are capable of USB2 but have the wrong drivers installed or the drivers dont work - especially if VIA chipset based).0 -
To frisbee-
Does this card have a long warranty and does it have any speeds listed on the packaging?
TIA for any assistance.

Thanks, you don't sound patronising at all, you've got a good point there and it's deffo something I will look into, or better still get the kids or hubby to look into :rotfl:
It's having to convert from mp3/cd/whatever to the compatible formats for ipod/sony that frustrates me. We've got a huge amount of previously ripped mp3s that I can just copy and paste onto my own players (ministry of sound and qoolqee) and I'm ready to go. But if my family want any of it on their players, it can take hours to set up. I suppose if I purchased itunes then it would be simpler for the shuffles, but then I can't play the stuff on other players, at least I don't think I can?
Anyway, apologies to the OP for hijacking the thread! Good deal, will have a look when I next go to Morrisons :beer:0 -
How annoying is this, thought I had a good deal at £5.99 in Aldi last week.
Why is it everytime I buy something someone can reccomend a cheaper place to buy from.0 -
What's the deal?
If you got a digital camera or mobile phone for xmas this year chances are it didn't include a memory card for storing pictures and music (or included one with miserly capacity). Luckily, flash memory cards are forever getting cheaper, so it needn't be expensive to upgrade your storage.
The cheapest buys
SD cards: Secure Digital cards have been around for a while now, and are the most common type. However, there are now three varieties: SD, Mini-SD, and Micro-SD, so make sure you get the right one for your needs.- 1GB SD £4.98 delivered. Web retailer DVD.co.uk is offering 1 GB Kingston branded regular SD cards for £4.98 including postage. Amazon* sells a Bytestor version for £4.34, but you must spend over £15 to get free delivery, otherwise you'll pay a further £2.75 + VAT postage charge on top.
- 2GB SD £7.99 delivered. Play.com has a Maxell branded 2GB SD for a super-cheap £7.99 delivered (thanks to Geoggy for the spot), and 7dayshop is offering a 2GB Toshiba branded version for £8.14 including postage.
- 1GB Micro-SD £5.99 delivered. Play.com* is offering an own brand 1GB micro-SD card for £5.99 with free delivery, and it includes a card adaptor too (which will allow micro sd cards to fit a normal sd slot).
- 2GB Micro-SD £11.49 delivered. Again, Play.com* is cheapest, with an own-brand card at £11.49 delivered. If you want a brand-name card, a Sandisk 2GB micro-SD is available from DVD.co.uk for £11.94
Spotted any of the above cheaper elsewhere? Post below and I'll add 'em in.
Anything else I should know?
The cards above should be easily adequate for most everyday applications, but they won't be the fastest available. Thus it's advisable to check their compatibility beforehand if you intend to use them for things that require speedy writing, like taking fast-sequence photos.
If you intend to buy from Amazon and you need a small item to make an order tip over the £15 mark, then try using the Amazon Filler Tool, which'll keep you as close to the margin as possible.* Using these links helps the site stay ad-free and free to use, as they’re ‘affiliated links’ which invisibly take you via commercial price comparison services like Moneysupermarket or Find, which then pay this site per click. You shouldn’t notice any difference, the links don’t impact the product at all and the editorial line (the things I write) is NEVER impacted by the revenue. If it isn’t possible to get an affiliate link for the best product, it is still recommended and still included. For the sake of transparency go to amazon.co.uk for an unaffiliated link. Click on the following link for more details on how this site’s financed.0 -
As Lawrence rightly points out, the above cards are adequate for everyday use. If you want something slightly better and quicker, I'd always recommend the Sandisk Extreme Series.
Play currently have a 2gb Extreme III SD card for £14.99 (were £12.99)These are semi-pro cards and well worth it!
EDIT: Cheeky monkeys! I give them some credit and they put their Extreme III cards up by £2! Thanks to Sylvia for pointing that one out.
:j :j :j :j :j :jThe smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.
