As mentioned in the Mobile Cashback Help Guide, Martin has submitted a petition to the No 10 website asking the government to make mobile phone network operators legally responsible for the cashback deals offered on their phone services.
If you would like to sign the petition you can do so on the No 10 website.
Thanks

Is there a poll that can be set up on this forum, as I and 19 other Independant dealers have been asked to attend a meeting with Ofcom next month to give our views with regards to the whole cashback scenario.
They have already consulted the networks but did not get very far with them.
http://www.mbmagazine.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2768&Itemid=62
The poll could be like this:
1) I want cashback offers to become illegal
2) I want cashback offers to have legal restrictions placed on them and the networks to be responsible.
3) I want cashback offers to have legal restrictions placed on them and the networks not to be responsible.
4) I do not want any restrictions on cash-back offers and want to be free to make my own decisions.
I can then take this poll to Ofcom next month and they will be able to see different sides of the debate.
I do not want cash-backs to stop and neither do i feel that the networks should be responsible as it is an agreement between the retailer and the customer, as per many industries.
The networks do however need to police the prolific cash-back/high end gift dealers better, and should be able to prove to Ofcom that they are doing this otherwise they should be held to account.
If people want legislation to make the networks totally responsible you can forget about competition in the industry as you will be left with the networks only to get your contract phones from, as they will only allow dealers to deal with the business sector and reduce our commission to a level where we cannot compete with them.
Legislation should be brought in to make dealers, including CPW and P4U not to be able to offer cashback which is more than the commission they receive less the cost of the phone and spot checks should be made, with fines for companies who flout this.
I also lay some blame on the comparison websites as they in the past have listed all the savings that can be made and who pays out the most cashback, with little regard for checking out the companies behind the offers and their terms and conditions of actually getting your cashback.
Consumers tend to trust the comparison sites and go into these deals misguided, and invariably ending up coming to forums such as this to complain about the service they have received from the company they have taken up an offer with.
Martin, also is always on TV telling people to use proper retail outlets to choose what they want and then go online to get a better deal, without explaining the full facts. e.g: what if something goes wrong with the item, is the mail order company stable, how long have they been trading etc, etc
This sort of advice is causing a decline in good old fashioned retail shops and the retail experience.
I buy my kitchen appliances from Euronics shops who are independant, and although may be a bit more expensive you end up with the right product for you and an aftersales service to match.
I try and get my wife to buy meat from my local butchers where the quality is A1 and fresh and they always have different variations and selections.
All in all I try where possible to buy local and buy from independants.
Service in my opinion is worth more than saving a few quid.0 -
Thanks Bra1n I wasn't sure how to add the link.0
