BMI Online Check In And Not Sitting Children With Parents

We are flying out of heathrow tomorrow morning, so i decided to try and check in online. Its only a 1 hour 15min flight so not to bad.

I went through the process and i got to the seat selection. I tried to change our seats but it wouldnt work. BMI had allocated 3 seats scattered over the plane  so we were all sitting seperately. Mr divadee and me not to bothered about it but I cant believe BMI would let a 9 year old sit on there own  I didnt realise that on a tiny fare you cant change your seat so online check in failed.

I called them up and they said nope nothing you can do, the seats allocated are the seats you will get. They did say you might be very lucky and if you get to check in at the airport early they might be able to sort something out.

Am I wrong in wanting my daughter to sit with me or mr divadee? I said to the woman surely you cant expect a 9 year old to sit next to some stranger? She said well thats the way the seats have been allocated.

I said to her surely you can make a note and ask for 2 seats together and mr divadee will sit in his allocated seat. But apparently the computer says no

What a stupid service!!!!! Or am i in the wrong here? I agree that they should pick the seats for us as we did get the cheapest fare, but not to sit a child with one of her parents is wrong isnt it?

Strange ! some airlines actually go to extremes the other way. They will put the accompanying adult between the child and another adult if they can.

Kick up a fuss when you get to check in. Say you will sue them if your child is made to sit with strangers !

thats what my dad has said. He said if they wont do anything ask for the manager and she what they say, if they still wont relent he said say its a child protection issue!! They wont want the risk of something happening on there flight.

I know little miss divadee would probably be fine and its only a short flight but i would not be comfortable with it. I would probably end up standing up for the flight as i am 2 rows behind. I would stand by her in the aisle watching like a hawk!!

At worse, cabin crew should be able to sort it out so at least one of you is with your child.Doesnt stop you worrying though.
Sometimes these CS agents can be really stupid.Phone them back, give them another "chance" to act reasonably and sort it out, even an assurance that it will be sorted by crew. If no satisfaction, write to them.

i have phoned 3 times now this morning, speaking to a different indian call centre worker every time, they dont understand fully the problem, and just say if you want to change the allocated seats now it will be £80 each ticket.

The last chap i spoke to did say we shouldnt have any problems getting the seats changed at the airport as the majority of the flight are on these tiny fares so they cant change there seats either.

our flight is at 8.40 so we will get to the airport about 6ish to be on the safe side.

does anyone have a number for an english call centre for bmi? The problem is being a sunday teh normal head office etc... is not open.

when i call bmi you would think i was asking for first class for free for us all!! Its stupid that they cant see that a parent would want to sit with there child. When we booked in march we booked for 2 adults and 1 child so they knew a child would be with us.

I would make a real fuss about it at check in and they should sort it out. If not the cabin crew will move people about on the flight. It's not in their interest for you to sit apart from your children. I was asked to move on a recent trip for this very reason, and got free drinks all flight for my trouble!

    thanks doonhammer.

i am hoping it will be possible as we are not really going on a tourist route as we are flying to brussels. I think it will just be a lot of single business people on the flight. I have looked this morning and there are still seats available as well to buy, so fingers crossed it should be ok.

Its just one more thing to worry about, im worried that they will lose my luggage, im worried that the tree huggers may delay our flights

why oh why do we bother going on our hols!!!:rotfl:

also to make matters worse i am a smoker and you can longer smoke at the airport anywhere, so i tell ya i will be fuming if we cant get seats together and no ciggy to take my mind of it!!

Firstly I think it's actually illegal now to let a child be sat next to a stranger on the plane.

Secondly DO NOT speak to the Indian call centre, they are useless.

Stop winding your self up, just check in earlyish and INSIST you sit with your child.

Check in agents usually have some common sense

    Enjoy the holiday.

In my experience of dealing with airline call centres is that if you make a request which involves them doing an extra bit of work then they will fob you off and decline your request.

If there is a supervisor walking around check-in then ask them first. Some airlines have someone helping out directing people at check-in.

thanks guys what confused me even more was that on our bmi tiny fare you cant actually use the check in desks apparently you have to use the self service check in. When i called the indian call centre i said this to the chap and he said oh just use the desk and see what they say.

it does say on the website that you cant have seat selection on tiny fare but you would think they would use common sense and put a part of 3 together wouldnt you?

first and last time if bmi. we booked in march they took the money straight away fair enough. Then they call in june to say they have cancelled the 11am flight so you will have to get the 8.40 flight. not to much of an issue, if not an early start!!

Now this its just not on!! Yes i got a bargain as i booked so early. But they are now flogging the same flights that we paid £174 for, for £699. And those people would still get the same crap service that we have had!!

We were gonna go on eurostar but it was slightly more money, wish i had now
