Asprea Ltd

Options
I recently had a claim on my house insurance with Barclays.

they sent an assessor from Asprea Ltd (a Sheffeld company) who demanded the £75 excess charge, which I paid thinking the were the assessors which they said they were, but no, they are the building company or contractors or something.

I decided to use a builder I had used before for safety reasons so when my claim was settled I was surprised to find Barclays also took the £75 excess from the payment.

Several phone calls to Espria from the insurance company and from myself, all times being told the cheque to refund me was being raised - well guess - no cheque.

Today I have been told that a cheque is being raised today and Barclays insurance have said there is nothing else they can do.

I am so annoyed about this and have threatened to take them to court if I dont receive it in the next week.

So the moral of the story is - dont hand over the excess cheque to the 'assesor' unless you are certain you are using them as your repairers.

In fact dont hand over a cheque to this company at all if you might want it back any time soon.

And Barclays wont get my business in November either.

  • Barclays wont be getting any more of my business either.

See my note below that I added to yet another thread complaining about Asprea. Really, you wouldnt think a massive company liek Barclays would use such a disreputable cowboy firm would you. Im shocked! Its put me off Barclays for life!

Asprea are horrible and as a consequence I would never get insurnace with Barclays or Norwich Union again

I had a leak in August 2007. It is now January 2008 and I am no closer to knowing when Asprea will get someone to complete the work.

Asprea never return my phonecalls or emails. They never keep me informed. I have to chase them daily and still get no information. Their phone lines are terrible making you believe no one is ever there although it is quite a large company. Asprea have been telling me something different to what they have told the contractors and what they have told the insurers

Avoid using Asprea like the plague!

    Hiya
We are trying to deal with Asprea at the moment. I have been ringing them for over a week but haven't managed to get through yet. Does anyone have a phone number other than the main one of 08456 580073? Any help would be appreciated.

Had a terrible time with this lot as well. Enough to tell Barclays I would not be taking their insurance the following year. They asked for the same information on 3 separate occasions, both by letter and phone. They forgot the excess I paid. They then subcontract out the work to a company in Livingstone who then in turn give the job to a builder. Thankfully the builder was good. However its pathetic to have to deal with four different companies about a single claim.

Hi, am trying to deal with them myself at present and the no. I have is 0845 658 0081 - I waited quite a while but did get a response.
  • I actually work for Asprea and thought I should set a few things straight.
Asprea are a claims manageent company so we handle the insurance claims after they have been logged, we are not builders so we dont sub contract the work we use approved contractors agreed with NU.

The surveyors that attend are all fully qualified and collect the excess on site so that once the claims are validated the work can go straight to the contractors.
If you are not going to be usig our contractrs but decide to use your own we do not need to collect the excess as yur insurance companies will deduct it from the payment they make to you.
We only collect excess if requested to by your insurance company as the only way they can guarentee that you pay is if you pay before the work is done.

We cannot deny that in certain offices the phone lines are busy and you may have difficulty getting through but we cannot help that if there are lots of claims there are inevitably lots of calls.

Julie Marie-Can you answer post number three? Its astounding arrogance to say the company cant help it if customers cant get through-they can help it.

You seem to be telling us the way things should be done--not what people are experiencing. Perhaps you should draw your managements attention to this thread.

    Phone numbers I'm have are,

    0845 6580081
    0845 6581020
    01506 591030

Depends on where you live to what office you ring, but you still can't get an answer.

I have claim going on at the moment and Asprea sent emergency repairer out to replace slates on roof, repair lasted less than 24hours as so called vetted repairer didn't nail slates on,been trying to contact Asprea since this happened and can't get any answer from phones and no replies to emails, all the insurance company say is they must be busy.
So has any one got any ideas hhow to get problems sorted?
  • I just thought i should come on and leave a comment as it seems no one from the approved contractors has had their chance to speak.

I currently work for an approved builder of NU's and we receive all our work through Asprea.

I think there are a lot of flaws in the process which should be changed - at the end of the day, the only one that suffers is the customer. We also have them same issues getting through to Asprea - waiting up to 20mins at a time before you can speak to anyone.

A lot of the time, the customers think the problems lie with us contractors. What they dont understand is that we are given instructions to carry out a specific task whether it be an inspection or a repair. We do not have the authority to do anything other than whats been asked of us. Its easy for Asprea to put the blame on others but i think its about time there is some sort of structure put in place.

This winter has proved it - there are no cast in stone procedures in place and the goalposts continue to move. All that happens is that the jobs are getting hit with lengthy delays!!
