Barclaycard Cashback card is back! be careful though....

http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/products/apply/platinum293.html

The flexi rate credit card offers cashback at

2% for petrol and supermarket food
and 0.5% on everything else

be careful this is worded wrongly, it is actually 1.5% on petrol and supermarket food (I complained about this after applying and got 0% on purchases for 10 months!!)

The other benefit of the cashback is it is paid monthly, and you can arrange for it straight from your bill. capped at £15.00 a month (therefore a maximum of £750.00 spend at the higher level of cashback)

It also offers flexi rate- the more you pay off the less the APR, although in my opinion this is crap, as even the lowest APR is 9.9% which isnt great.

anyway it is a good deal, if you want to keep all your other cards active, as you can put the higher level of cashback purchases on this card and other things on other cards

there are so many offers though, apply soon before it goes... I complained about how many offers there are, as it is too complicated and this lead to alot of problems with my card

Let me know your thoughts people!!!!

  • Cheers for this! I've just applied and if my supermarket cashback isn't at 2% I'll just have to ring them and see what they'll do... 10 months 0% on purchases would do me nicely. Even if it is only 1.5% for supermarket/petrol etc it still beats my Egg Money card which 'll use for none grocery/petrol purchases.

yer I know, I have an egg card aswell. Ive only just got it but Ill use it for when I go out for meals, and also for the deals on the site.

Anyway Im not going to talk more about the egg card, as it has eneought exposure on this site!!! lmao

10 months for 0% is good, especially with the other benefits, what you can do to get the cashback each month still is put a certain amount on your credit card (depending on your credit limit) and the rest keep paying a regular payment on it...

Im just trying to work out whether it is worth just maxing it out....erm
at the top level of cashback it isnt worth maxing out and not using, as it far outweighs any interest...

    for example

    credit limit £3,000
Put £2,000 on it (which you will recieve cashback on)

then if every month you put on £750.00 at the higher level of cashback (£250.00 buffer) you will get £15.00 back, plus you will benefit from the interest free period, (up to 56 days) so you get paid out twice!!! plus youll recieve inerest for 10 months on the money kept on it.

this must be one of the best deals out there.... Martin come on, I want to be a guest writer on here!!! lol

Are Barclaycard customer services 'offshore' or based in the UK?
Also, how come the offer states "2%, etc" on their site yet the OP says it's only 1.5% on supermarket shopping etc? Has this been clarified?

    grrrr second time writing this!!!

It started when I had an offer honoured, as they misadvised me e.t.c.

I spoke to the customer relations manager, who confirmed this 1.5%

to be honest there are too many offers, which lead to problems as when you ring they do not know what they are on about

anyway I complained again, as I thought it was 2% and I was given 0% on purchases for 10 months...not bad but still would have rathered the enhanced cashback.
Still I suppose the 0% is better in a way as at least thats guaranteed, with the cashback they could just pull it at any time, within 28 days. I recon this will be a regular tactic used in the future

please let me know if anyone does get the 2% confirmed, it will give me something else to complain about!!!

Yes, but are their call centres in the UK or abroad. And, secondly, have they been guilty of revising T&C's previously to remove cashback to current customers after the offers have closed to the public?

Answer to the first question I honestly dont know. I have rung before and spoke to English speaking people and other people before. It depends on what number you ring. Why does it matter that much? Im not saying that to be awkward, Im just interested

Second question I dont think so, but as I have said they dont really have to risk that, all they have to do is honour the offer and then write to you giving 28 days revising the T&C'S

I have a &More card and their call centre is offshore and it is an absolute nightmare trying to get the simplest information from them. That is despite my best efforts using Saynoto0870 to circumvent it. Even the Chester number now diverts to their call centre in wherever it is. Just looking to avoid a similar language problem with any other card I take out if possible.

thats weird, I also have an &More card, I cant say I have had alot of problems in that regard, I ring the 0800 996997. Try that the 0845 (amoungst ripping you off) may be the problem...

hmmm just remembered that I spoke to a customer services manager about the 0845 numbers (complaining!) and we had a lengthy convo in which that was mentioned about moving an entire department offsure!

I dont think Barclaycard are based entirely offsure

and no worries for replying, I have thanked your post and the others you have wrote, please return the favour!!!

    cheers mate

Well having applied the other night and requiring to phone them today to clarify something I was transferred to SEVEN different people, all of whom I had to explain a very simple question, yet each just replied with "I will have to transfer you to a colleague of mine, etc." and away I went again. Gave up, phoned back and spoke to only THREE different people this time. The last person being the one I asked to cancel my application. It's an outsourced call centre which only added to my frustration at having to repeat everything at least twice before I made myself understood.

    Horrific.
