Onboard graphics doesn't take up RAM, it has it's own. That said it's running minimum ram for Vista in both so upgrading would be worth it...
What are your current specs, what do you want to do with it?0 -
Onboard Graphics does indeed use System RAM.
Personnally I would opt for the AMD machine. I have bought one and was impressed by the quality of the case and noise level of the machine.
I cant compare it to the Intel as I haven't seen 'one in the flesh'.
Upgrading the Graphics for the AMD was simple although it was unfortunate to see a Warranty Sticker across both side panels.
Once you open it, either for your memory upgrade or a graphics upgrade, the warranty is void.
I dont think Vista is going to be too bothered with the shared memory, It's a memory hungry beast at the best of times so even 2GB worth doesn't exactly make it fly.
Memory upgrades are always worth it but it won't transform a PC.
The T180 I bought, I coupled with a dedicated PCI-e graphics card and I thought it was great.0 -

Starting to do a lot video and audio converting!!0 -
I would buy the core 2 duo one. It's regarded as the best processor range around at the moment. The onboard graphics will use system memory. You could add some extra RAM, or it may be cheaper to buy a cheap Graphics card with dedicated memory. Depends how much extra RAM you're thinking of adding rally. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
So this ...Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1,86GHz
is a better ? faster? processor than...
this..Processor ATHLON 64 3800+Dual Core.0 -

And, I think the difference in price gives it away too (although this is not always necessarily true - e.g. this AMD FX57 for £518!!):
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ = £67.57
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 = £111.20

the Core 2 duo's are the best processors you can get at the moment.
The RAM runs at a higher speed 533mhz, over the Amd's 400mhz
only thing is the AMD has a dedicated graphics card and the Intel shares from the system on these specs.
Onboard graphics DO use system Ram0 -
You need to also check that the Intel system has a PCIe X16 slot if you want to upgrade the graphics - I notice it doesn't mention it specifically, whereas the other one does.0

The intel is not upgradable, becasue its integrated into the motherboard.0 -

the memory speeds make little or no difference - infact the latency will be higher with the core II duo's memory and the bandwidth may be less.
nope the amd one is onboard graphics as well.
Would go for the second one - better processor by far.0
