Virgin Media Phone Price Increases/Cuts from 1/5/2007

Options

Minute billing is being introduced for CHARGEABLE calls.

" the way your call charges are calculated is also changing. Instead of charging to the nearest second, calls will be rounded up to the next minute.
So for example, a call that lasts 4 minutes and 50 seconds will be rounded up to 5 minutes."

A short chargeable geographical call (less then a minute) will therefore now cost a wacking 9p . (6p connection + 3p for call).

Short peak mobile call (Orange ,o2,Voda,T-Mob) 21p. (6p connection plus 15p for call).

Short peak 0870 call. 16p. ( 6p connection 10p for call).

Talk Plans are being reduced.

"Talk Evenings and Weekends (Size: L) – offering unlimited UK landline evening and weekend calls – is coming down in price from £5.50 to £3.95 per month – that's an annual saving of £18.60
Talk Unlimited (Size: XL) – offering completely unlimited UK landline calls – is coming down in price from £14.00 to £9.95 – that's an annual saving of £48.60 "

    From the Virgin website here:
Phone – changes to our call charges

    * From 1st May 2007 the way your call charges are calculated is also changing. Instead of charging to the nearest second, calls will be rounded up to the next minute.
    * So for example, a call that lasts 4 minutes and 50 seconds will be rounded up to 5 minutes. This will affect customers with call plans, those with bundled minutes (Talk Anywhere) and all other telephony customers in the same way
So that's all calls then!

BT charges per second for 08 and 09 numbers.

This is a retrograde step - all the telco companies made a big deal of charging by the second so that you only paid for what you used - they now seem to be backtracking. A good job that I don't pay for phone calls (free unlimited on home phone through Virgin, free calls to mobiles etc from my o2/cpw cashback deal!)

    Good grief.
Remember the Phone Co-Op and First Telecom are there for cheaper calls over a cable line - both charging per second with no connection fee.

I pay £35 pm for 2mb BB, XL TV and free anytime calls indefinitely, so call charges don't bother me.

Can someone clarify - if you have, say, Talk Evenings & Weekends, you will NOT be charged a connection fee for calls in this period?

Minute billing only applies to Chargeable calls eg; those that are not included in your particular call package.

The calls are never normally free with them, inclusive yes but not free, because you pay for them in the package that you purchase from them monthly, and you pay whether you use them or not.
