Why bother with Vista at all ?
It is DefectiveByDesign
Don't rush to enslave yourselves
Vista contains built-in spyware:
Vista contains DRM:

Spread the news to all consumers. Lets not blindly walk into corporate arms.
Any chance this could be made into a STICKy for all to see ?

Vista contains built-in spyware:
http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/01/10/HNnsamadevistasecure_1.htmlNSA helped Microsoft make Vista secure
Revelations about NSA's involvement in Vista's development raise concerns about possible 'back-door' access to data by the spy agency
Vista contains DRM:
http://www.defectivebydesign.org/en/blog/924DRM technology is a growing problem for all computer users and, by extension, for all of society. DRM is typically used to restrict individuals' use of their own copies of published works. To enforce these restrictions, DRM software, and now hardware, monitors and controls computer users' behavior. Frequently it reports on what it sees, or cripples functionality if it believes the user has violated the terms of a copyrighted work or end user license of software or hardware.

Spread the news to all consumers. Lets not blindly walk into corporate arms.

Unlikely with such biased info. Not really technical help, but more political opposition."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Yep, no technical argument what so ever. A typical minority that have a vendetta against Microsoft. Very much the wrong way of trying to convert people, especially as you give no examples of what to switch to. And it's not as simple as "use Linux".
With regards to DRM, people will get round it anyway, or you'll end up getting something similar to DVD John whereby people have hardware capable of playing HD, so why shouldn't they be allowed to."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
I'll stick to windows 3.0.
Ok so I'm joking but I will be sticking with XP for now thanksNothing to see here, move along.0 -
One thing that does annoy me is this,
Windoze
M$
Micro$oft
If you dont like it use Linux no ones forcing you, or make your own OS.
Their I said it0 -
Im going to buy a new computer soon but don't know whether to go for Vista or stick with my xp?
I think I may wait until other people have had Vista for a couple of months and see how it pans out!0 -

OK, how about this: Vista is much slower than XP - 30% drop in performance in Unreal Tournament 2004, 20% drop in video encoding, 90% drop in 3D rendering - lots of technical info with nice graphs from a reliable source here:

Personally, I'd rather have my security designed by people who actually know about security. The worries seem to be wild speculation from the same people who cry wolf at anything when certain organisations are even mentioned. As for DRM, we've lived with it for years already and so far I've not seen actual evidence that vista's DRM is crippling?!? As I said it's simply wild speculation from people who themselves have agendas based on details which I actually would expect from a modern OS."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Error 404??? Can't dispute the claim if I can't even see the details of the claim."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

The DRM has now been cracked :-)0

Ok so how about linking to the conclusion of that article?

well done for highlighting the OpenGl games that do run slow on Vista. How about only a 1.9% drop in Call of Duty?
How about a 18/4% improvement in Xvid Video encoding?
How about a 5.5% improvement in Photoshop Image rendering?
There are certainly issues with performance with Vista, hopefully over the next couple of months improved drivers will help improve this.
I'm no fan of Microsoft but some of the criticism that is being levelled at Vista is just unfounded rubbish. Vista is not perfect but from what I've seen and read and it looks like a definite improvement on XP.
Most of the arguments against it are the same ones that were brought up when XP was introduced, and when Win 95 was introduced. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
