Options
After taking advice from you guys we phoned sky to tell them how we were thinking of canceling becase of the cost of are sky and sky+ package vs the cost of freeview... we were put through to six diffrent people each one of them would only upgrade our current package, no 3/6 months or free/half price, no deals offered on upgrading to sky HD or anything..... all we got was "sorry we can not help you" "your sky will cancel in 30 days"???? "good bye"

    unlucky...
I also followed the advise on here and phoned on Tuesday - I remember reading Tuesdays and Wednesdays are best to phone somewhere and I said I wanted to cancel because my wife wanted to get Freeview but I wanted to keep sky and played on the fact my wife was boss so I had to cancel :D
they offered me 6 months half price 'to think about it' :j
Sorry to hear you didnt get a deal though.
    Better luck next time.
  • Well, technically, yes it did work. You phoned to cancel and got cancelled. Would I be correct in assuming that you phoned to cancel in order to blag a discount?

I phoned up a few weeks ago to cancel my Sky and I was worried that I was going to be browbeaten into taking a discount (this happened last time I downgraded.) I was rather relieved when they asked me why I was cancelling and then cancelled it. No mess, no fuss.
  • Murdoch bites back:money:
  • i also phoned sky to tell them that i couldnt afford my £50 a month subs(i have sky+ and multiroom) they told me that seen as i have been a valued customer for years they would give me sky for half price for 6 months, this is a year on and it runs out in feb, so i will be calling them again to see what they can offer?..also i go for an interview with them next week so maybe i wont have to pay for my subs anyways.lol:j

I did this a few weeks ago and got cancelled, shame as I was really hoping to continue my previous year and a bit of discounts...

Got a call a couple of days ago from a very objectionable yoof who, rather than offer a discount to stay, went down the path of arguing with me that I must be stingy because it only costs 50p a day and you can't even get a mars bar for that! (For info, my office tuck shop sells mars for 30p).

Will probably still keep sky but don't want to appear on that guys list as a success, he just wound me up sooooo much!

I phoned to cancel four times. The first time got the big 6 months half price, the second time got four months at half price...the third time got 2 months at 30%, and an offer of a recommitment deal, one year at 20% discount. Fourth time, no deal, but they did phone a month later and did the please come back speech, but no deals available at this time. I asked her to phone me back when I could have 6 months at half price again....still waiting!!
Can anyone tell me...is E4 on freeview now? and if it is should I be able to get it through my sky box?
  • E4 is available on freeview and yes, you will be able to get it on your sky box, I believe sky now offer freeview through their digibox..

I phoned and moaned that I have been with them for over 10 years, my box is crap and the sound keeps going off, my controllers are worn and the buttons don't work .... so I wanted a new box for free or cancel the lot.

1st time got the 6 months 50%, but then we decided that we wanted to upgrade to Sky+ .... so I phoned again - same story but that I still wasn't happy even with 50% discount - can I upgrade or cancel.

We got a brand new Sky+ box, installation, new dish etc.... all for £49 one off payment. Even got a spare sky+ controller from the installer for £5.
Online its £99 for the box and £60 installation.

Sky+ is brill - didn't really watch much tv before (was always online) but now we watch all the films and record series that we like - recommend it.
  • Cancelled our sky when we moved as they offerered us a poor moving deal spent 2 weeks in the new house signed up again halfprice for 6 months and new box and installation . Spoke to c/s you only need a small cooling off period and then they quite happily sign you up again as they then have you in a 12 month contract which you cant cancel.Worth looking at what special deals are on at the mo!
