In Poundland today- colgate toothbrushes ( zigzag) and toothpaste were buy one get one free at ... £1!
I tried to search for the old thread but at the moment have no search facility for some reason, so if you want to move it mods feel free.
Also still some good books- David Nicholls ( who wrore starter for 10) The Understudy
For presents for teenage girls - 'Me myself and I' Discover yourself with 50 revealing personality Quizzes by Robert Allen.
and Ooh la la perfect makeup, body, hair and face books for £1 each are really nice for girls too.

Also had Kelly holmes biography (hard back) and lots of half-price Christmas wrapping - I got 6 metres of Disney wrap for 50p.0

A checkout "person" in the poundland in Barking served my 10yo daughter and chucked a carrier bag in her general direction.
I said that we didn't need a bag, and she replied "you have it now"!!
One thing the 99p and poundland do have plenty of... is L-O-N-G queues at the checkouts
