  • Could anyone tell me how I can find out if I have a firewall already installed on my laptop?? Also, is there any point in having any more than one?

    Thanks for your patience!

  • You probably have the Windows firewall (if you have Windows that is!).

Your question is answered here about half way down:-

  • Thanks for your replies.

I think I have Window Firewall plus AOL firewall. Do you think that it is unwise to have both running?

    Cheers.

Not on the same PC, that'll cause havoc. There is a big advantage (if you are using broadband) to inserting a router between your PC and the cable/ADSL MODEM; most routers have an inbuilt firewall and network address translation (NAT) facility which is a Good Thing!

Turn off your Windows firewall and download Zonealarm.
Been using it for years and no trouble.
I also use Firefox as my internet browser and Thunderbird for my emails and havn't had a virus or anything else for ages. Really good.
    And, they're free.

    Back again!!!
When I was posting, I was trying to help someone get AVG and Sygate. It was so long ago I did mine.
Trouble is the poor girl is getting lots of block notifications far too regularly to keep sane. I remember getting the same when I installed sygate, but don't remember how I stopped it.
Any recommendation for when I next see her please?
