Sound insulation for garage (temporary)

My son is a heavy metal drummer...( I know you all feel you can sympathize with me!)...he and his mates practice in the house, but now want to use our garage.

Mindful of the needs of our neighbours, can any one recommend the correct material to successfully complete this...especially for the light ply wood cover on the garage door?

This is only a temporary measure as we wish to use the garage for its original use in 9 mths time.

Thanx!

    do you like eggs?:rotfl:

glueing a few hundred boxes to your walls was all the ragine in the '70's

sound proofing materials tend to be on the expensive side

it might help if you used old mattresses to the walls to deaden the sound - the more 'soft' materials in there to absorb the sound the better - an old sofa, xmas decs?, suitcases/ etc anything to stop the sound bouncing off the hard walls/doors should help somewhat

    Hi,

First you need to fill any holes in the garage. If air can get in and out of the building, so can sound. Things to look for are gaps underneath doors, around windows etc.

After that you can spend money on materials that can make it better.

Changing the light weight hollow door to a solid fire resistant door would improve a lot as long as no gap around the door.

    HTH!

Ok, so maybe I can be more specific, the difficulty will be the actual garage door itself, ie......the main up and over type door....its made of thin ply wood......recommended material to insulate that?

have you ever felt a cinema wall?
They have some sort of foam stuck to the wall which is covered in fabric.

i use a similar type of material , it is coustifoam with a lead inner - i would imagine for a residential use it could be prohibitavely expensive. the coustifoam without lead would not be sufficient for your needs , Imo

edit ; have just had another look at srs uk and the soundstop IS the one i was talking about

There is another thread here with a couple of alternatives
