I think they need to *persuade* the energy company to reduce prices PDQ rather than dole out money to people who have over 30 years worth of savings.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

a question welshmoneylover. You have at the bottom of your mails that you have lots of money so why do you come on the benefits board and go on threads complaining about people getting benefits?
I agree that a lot of benefits are too high and I have only claimed for a short period after the birth of a second child but if you are doing so well for yourself, why do you feel the need to go into sections of the forum where you do not wish to offer anything constructive?
This section of the forum is for people to discuss what they may or may not be entitled to and nothing else as per the MSE forum instructions0 -
Because I believe in benefits going to people who genuinely need them, ie, sick & disabled folk etc.
I do not believe people should be given benefits who do not need them.
This country can't afford it right now.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -

Just to clarify then, the old people who die each year because they are too scared/poor to put on their heating do not need the winter fuel payment, is that correct?0 -

I think the point expressed was people who "need" the benefits. Very clearly, if someone is going to die but for help then that is an appropriate use of the social security system.0 -

If you re-read my original post, I make reference to pensioners who have 30years+ of savings (accumulated while working). They do not need this money.
Pensioners/widows/widowers who have no saving,living on krappy pension benefits etc are frightened to death of putting the heating on most certainly do need this extra payment and I do not begrudge them one penny. This winter was berluddy freezing,
