Black Cumin/Mast Cell Tumours

I have a dog that had 2 aggressive mast cell tumours removed, both with good margins, she was on prednisolone (steroid) for a couple of months but she and us couldn't cope with the side effects. I have been researching the benefits of black cumin in preventing mast cell tomours from recurring and would like to try it, I think it is easy enough to buy them but cannot find any information on how much I should give her, would anyone know anything that could help, I know it is a natural product but am also sure that she could have too much of a good thing!

Any help appreciated,

Many thanks

Hayley and Honey x

hi there - i cant find any reference in any of my textbooks. i can understand why you (and your pooch) are fed up of the pred- the side effects can be horrid.

the best thing i can advise would be to speak to your vet. if your vet is not very forthcoming or keen on the idea, then try ringing up a specialist- either in oncology, or homeopathy, and ask their advice. they may not be happy to give advice over the phone without having your dogs clinical records however.

whatever you do, do what you feel is best for your dog. don't worry about offending your vet by seeking a second opinion - lots of owners do it, and the vets are used to it :)

good luck- let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for that Tankgirl, my Vet is pretty good but in general the practice does not want to know if you talk "alternative" or mention not wanting teh annual vaccs. I will however call her tomorrow and get an opinion, I can always ignore it after all!

    Thanks again!

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this: Sorry, giving or asking for medical advice is not permitted on this forum as it’s not what this site is about. While discussing medical insurance policies, cheaper ways to see consultants, cashback for alternative health treatments and how to get specific medication cheaper (legally) are all perfectly acceptable we ask you specifically not to discuss what to do in the event of certain medical problems (please see this rule on the Health Board). If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!. :)
