Keeping cool at nighttime

Hi everyone
I posted this tip last summer but couldn't find it in the search so thought maybe worth repeating.
My small person is exceptionally ratty when it's hot at night and despite a fan struggles to get to sleep...then he cries...then he gets even hotter!! So I fill a hot water bottle with cold water [I put it in the fridge during the day if I remember] and it's worked a treat so far!

Heard someone on the telly this morning say that putting a hot water bottle full of cold water between your knees was a good way of keeping cool in bed.0

Fill an empty plastic bottle (nearly full - leave room for expansion) and freeze. Place the frozen bottle of water in front of a fan - you'll probably need to put it on a couple of books to get the right height (I was thinking you'd need to put a plate under the bottle to catch any condensation as well). This will cool the air instead of just blowing around warm air!
Don't forget to drink lots of water (avoid tea, coffee and alcohol) and this will also help.0 -
Another one I heard yesterday was open the loft hatch up at night and it gives the heat somewhere to escape to. We tried it last night and there was a real difference in heat.0

I think they mentioned about shutting windows in the day, when the air outside is far hotter than the air inside. Same principle as opening the loft hatch I guess. She did go on to say that opening the window at night to ventilate the room was a good idea........ now I just need to get rid of the pesky biting insects...Debt Free Nerd No. 89, LBM: April 2006, Debt at highest (Sept 05): £40,939.96
