Unhappy with new "Gaming PC"

Hi i ordered a Gaming PC from Cougar Extreme a few weeks back. My Tower arrived wednesday.

Anyway since then(5 days now) the PC has had a very loud noise, even just doing standard stuff like surfing the net. The noise(whether from fan or some other part of system) is very loud & annoying, now my gaming system comes with stock cooler. But even so the noise is not right.

Also my system was sent out without any testing, as i know this for a fact. I had to reinstall Windows 7 as nothing would work and was full of errors & programs crashing.

Just wondering what right i have for a full refund? as im not happy with it at all.

Well considering its a "gaming machine" the cooling would be good and will be loud. the other thing is hard drives often make screeching noise when your performing something on the comp.

Ive had a gaming computer before, this thing after 10 minutes sounds like a car doing the normal stuff, go into gaming and sounds like a plane.

Sending out the thing untested is stupid aswell. I know it was not tested, as when it did not come when they said, it was due to graphics card being out of stock. I rang Tuesday around 4pm, he told me this, it was dispatched same day by 6pm. So within 2 hours of getting the card, he tested it and shipped it out?

Fact i had to reinstall windows myself, proved it was not tested. Card had obviously been just stuck in and shipped out.

Getting a refund or getting something sorted, will as usual with PC stuff be pain in !!!!.
  • Specs by the way are...

    AMD955
    Stock cooler
    4gb ddr3 ram
    500bg hard drive
    ATI 5770
    500w coolermastaer psu
1001 Black Midi Gaming Case 3

Irony is the 5770 suppose to be not loud:rolleyes:

Normaly they should have the PC tested for like 24 hours before shipping anything.
  • My first 'game' pc sounded like a bleeding hovercraft but now as processors can do much more with much less cooling then the noise on my current pc is a lot less noisy (it does increase when the fan on the gfx card kicks in to high gear :( )

Looking at your specs I would say it's the processor fan, stock fans arn't the best. From personal experience I find the Intel cpus much better at running cool and quiet.

I have a Coolermaster case and psu and it's very quiet, generally they are pretty good. Can't speak for the ATI card as I've always used Nvidia.

It's the cooler the noise coming from, it's a stock cooler so was not expecting anything special. I guess i will just replace it myself.

Was not tested for 24 hours. Which if they had done, they will have known the noise issues, maybe it's a bad stock cooler.

Either way i be careful useing them in future.

My last system was Intel & Nvidia. Was very good no noise issues, i watched a video on youtube saying "AMD cooler is a piece of crap".......it really is!

Last time i got for AMD & ATI set up:D
  • You could always get a 3rd-party cooler for the cpu, some are very good. Might sort the noise problem out without you having to take the whole lot back.

EDIT - Check that it doesn't invalidate warrenty though!

Is there an option in the BIOS to automatically control the fan speed? My last PC came with every fan set to 100% speed at all times and sounded similarly loud.

Send back as soon as poss. You said yourself, you're not happy. Don't leave it too late, ie after Christmas.

"I had to reinstall Windows 7 as nothing would work and was full of errors & programs crashing"

I'd have thrown a fit if this was my PC, and will be on guard when I order my Shuttle PC from them.

Not too sure about the noise solution but I guess your powerful 5570 graphics card might be quieter than similar cards, but still a bit noisy all the same? The case might not be the best for the job too, and maybe the stock fan, Maybe these little things can just add to the noise.

Hope you get this sorted as It's heartbreaking to spend good money on a gaming PC only for it not to deliver.

    PS
Joe can you imagine how noisy my current PC is (on the desk too)
    Overclocked i7 920
    2x GTX280s (overclocked)
    1000watt PSU
    3 120mm fans
    ;)
