Hi, can anyone recommend a good cordless phone around £70? I am looking for a twin as my one in the house is on its way out.
Thanks, D

I've got the Panasonic KXTCD 212 twin DECT set - I understand it's recently been discontinued, but I didn't like the look or feel of the newer model. The reception and features and build quality are great - like being able to transfer calls/conference call between handsets. And I have two wireless routers in my house - one DLink and one SpeedTouch and it doesn't intefere with either of them.
Cheapest I've found is: http://www.felko.co.uk/product.asp?pID=554&cID=11Fasthosts ruined my life0 -
oops - just had a quick google for one and you can get one delivered for less than your 70 quid budget here:

it doesn't have a colour screen, but if you want a colour screen I recommend buying a television!
it's got all your usual handsfree/speakerphone business, plus illuminated keypad and backlit mono screen. seriously worth considering - I had a BT Diverse with Siemens DECT technology jobby before and it was rubbish.Fasthosts ruined my life0 -
I use a Cable an Wireless Dect phone - model CWD8500. Had It for about 4 years and never had any problems at all with it.
It has lots of extras -
Colour picture display
Handsfree speakerphone
Handsfree headset (plus a belt clip so you're totally 'handsfree')
2 seperate phone books for storing business and private contacts
Alarm (with clock display)
Baby monitor
Walkie talkie
Call transfer to second handset
Timer
Stopwatch (-??? for running round the house?)
Reception is perfect - no problems at all. It has always performed well for me. Would definately recommend this phone. See link below for more info etc
(SORRY! Can't find a way to shorten the inserted link in MSE!! It's a very long one too
)
link
Hope this helps.

To put in a short link, type link (or whatever you like) then highlight the words and click on the blue globe icon, delete the http already there and paste into the box the link that you have copied from another website

Thanks for that, phone is even cheaper on pricerunner. One thing i wanted to check was what is the range? i just would like to know how far i can take it without it cutting out.

All DECTs are (allegedly) good for a range of 300 metres in ideal (open field, direct line of sight) conditions and 50 metres within a building.
However, radio propogation is always dependant on local conditions (thickness and type of walls, timber framing, RSJ supports and so on) so manufacturers are always careful not to be too specific.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
My base is in the front room of my house, and I take the handset to the bottom of my garden when the weather's as glorious as this and take/make calls without any problems. Can't guess the length as i'm pretty awful at it!!! But I live in a semi with a average sized garden if that helps.Dipak wrote:Thanks for that, phone is even cheaper on pricerunner. Hi,
I've got another question for all you helpful MSE people. My uncle has just brought a triple handset cordless phone (think its a BT synergy) and he mentioned that whats annoying about it is that if one of your handsets is downstairs and you answer the phone then no ones else can pick up any other handsets and speak or listen unless the you hang-up on the first handset. Now some people might think thats a good thing as you get more privacy but personally i think its a bad think because im old fashioned and want to be able to pick up one handset and want to be able to pick up another handset to listen without having to hang-up the first handset. Does anyone know whether this is a new standard feature will all double/triple/quad phone's or would it be just this with model? if so how do i check at the time of purchasing whether this applies to the phones or not?
Appreciate all you help so far.
Cheers, Dipak0 -
The DECT standard appears only to allow transfer between registered handsets, not simultaneous use.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
