This thread is specifically to discuss feedback for the

Money4Gold Postal Gold Company
(
Link)

Postal gold companies, where you pop your old jewellery in an envelope & they melt it down and send you a cheque, have boomed in the past couple of months. We’re researching a guide to selling old gold, and need help from folks who’ve used these companies.

If you've used this company, please can you tell us the following...
  • When did you use it
  • What did you send it
  • How much did it promise you
  • How much did it deliver
  • How efficient was the service
  • If it didn't deliver the full amount, what was its reason
  • Anything else other people should know

Important note for Representatives of Gold Companies

We will be monitoring the threads, and if we believe any company has got its own representatives to deliberately post positive feedback (or negative on its competitors) it will be deleted, and we will count that as negatively towards any company's reliability and trustworthyness.

  • I used money4gold last month and sent a mixture of gold and silver.
When i took it to the post office it weighed .99 kg, so I was optimistic when I received an e-mail saying my money was on it's way, but a little disapointed when I only received a chq for £22.00.
I then received another e-mail saying again that my money was on it's way, so I thought they must do gold and silver seperately, I e-mailed to ask and was told that the £22.00 was it, however then I received an e-mail saying that I had not cashed my chq(which I had) so I called them. The operator was very helpful and asked if I was happy with what I received.I told her, not really and she said she would try to get me a bonus. I then received another chq for a further £43.00, this all seems very strange to me, but I only sent items that I didn't want, so it was better than the jewellery sitting in my bedroom, although I still find the total figure rather low.
I think maybe they had made a mistake in the first place, but at least they put it right.

  • I sent a package to this company 1 month ago.I know what I expected approx but this amount never came. Instead i received an insulting cheque for £42. I returned this cheque according to there term & conditions, but, nothin was heard from them. I telephoned there free fone help line several times left messages on their answer machine but never got a call back. On my 3 e/mail to the company I theatened them with BBC WATCHDOG AND THE POLICE. Wonder of wonders last friday evening at 1730 I received a phone call from a lovely american lady, who i might add on asking her,was calling me from AMERICA no less. This i thought was very strange. She could have not been nicer I told her my story. She appologised profusly and said after consultation from her "supervisor" that she would send me a new cheque for £184.24 drawn on a southern Ireland bank,WOW !!! So this company had valued my gold package or how come thay arrived at 24p ? I accepted this amount and received a cheque a few days later. Please DO NOT use this company people. You wont get the amount for your precious items unless you complain. How many old, single, vunerable people has this company "allegedly" ripped off because of the recession. In other words seller beware.
  • Never use this company. They offered me £42 for jewellery which was worth nearer £200. They kept my gold for 2 months before returning it and only because I got trading standards involved.
  • Please do not use Money4Gold! Check out the site: moneywatch Have money4gold stolen your gold, for other peoples experiences and tips on how to deal with this company.
I went through Quidco to request a Gpak from M4G sent them my gold and received a cheque for £60, which was promptly returned recorded delivery, this is where the real problems began, i had to fight tooth and nail to have my gold returned, consumer direct, trading standards had no effect. I finally sent off a complaint to the BBB and made daily phone to M4G threatening legal action. Eventually suceeded in getting my gold returned, which was sent off to another reputable company, which I received over £200 for the same gold which was sent to M4G.
If you've already been bitten by this company, ensure you act quickly! Keeping a check on their website using your tracking number and go to the above site for the link to BBB, get your complaint logged and they will mediate with M4G, that is your best chance of getting your gold returned.
Otherwise stay well clear of this company!
  • I sent them 27g of gold back in September. Having read on another site that gold was at around £7 per gram I was dissapointed to receive a cheque for £36.00. As per the agreement, I was not happy so I returned the cheque to them. I got a phone call and they offered me £75.00, said I was still not happy and they agreed to send the gold back. I was then on holiday and when I returned they had left another message, I would assume to make another offer but as I had not returned the call they did return the gold.

A few days later I took it to a local jeweller and got £130.00 instantly in cash.

In hindsight I wish I had never wasted my time sending it to them but if anyone does use sites such as these I would offer the following advice.
Weigh your gold so you have an idea of the amount you SHOULD receive
NEVER accept whatever they first offer you, they are just trying it on
    Try a local jeweller first
  • do not use this company. I sent gold in september waited ages for my cheque it was for £16.75!! But i had waited ages for it to arrive & was flying out on holiday next day so had to wear it . Its a rip off !! Do Not Use them Ive lost out dont yOU!!!!!!!!!
  • As mentioned above, you really have to read the long thread on Money Watch to get the full low down on how utterly devious and corrupt this company is.

Type 'money4gold' in Google and it's the second listing!

My friend has been trying to get her gold back for a month after being offered 1/5th of the price a local goldbroker valued it at. They have effectively stolen her gold - she just gets told her 'case is on hold' or has been 'accelerated to management' every time she calls.

What particularly riles me is the way they go overboard with their ads and website to get the trust of customers.

They are a disgrace - avoid or pay the price.
  • I sent this company my gold 9/10/09 and received their pathetic cheque offer a week later on 16/10/09 which was returned to Money4gold.uk that same day. I followed their procedure and phoned the call centre asking that my gold was to be returned and they responded by doubling their offer which was refused. It has taken a month so far and numerous calls and emails to this company and after three promises to return my gold i still have not received it back. I eventually filed a complaint to BBB in the U.S & also Trading Standards U.K. as Money4gold.uk guarantee to return your gold "within" 15 days, after receiving their cheque back ... Hoh! it's taken a month so far and they still haven't returned my property !!!
Last night i received an email response from their customer service stating my gold had been sent 13/11/09 (Friday 13th ) and it would be delivered soon!!! There was no mention of a tracking number or anything so perhaps it's coming via pony express via the Arctic circle as it still hasn't turned up here yet. Money4gold.uk is the most UNPROFESSIONAL company i have ever come across and advise EVERYONE to avoid them at all costs.
  • I used money4 gold about 1 month ago - after reading your comments I was obviously ripped off! I didn't weigh my gold so had no idea what I would get back - I sent 1 necklace and 2 braclets I think they were 9K. They send me a cheque for about £5, I should have sent it back but I didnt really want the gold back anyway. Never mind lesson learnt.
  • It is surprising to see so many problems posted already. We made the decision to pool all our old gold, to use the proceeds to buy a ring. The jewellery has a great deal of sentimental value and it was only after getting permission from my parents that we decided to do it.

We split the gold up in to batches and sent the first two off, we didn't hear anything for a while and the customer service was questionable. It wasn't until we got the cheques through the post that we got £173 altogether, many independent sites had quoted a figure much higher than this so we decided to send the cheques back. The gold was put on hold we are told, but heard nothing more for weeks. I then emailed again, and someone from America called and left a message. It is only today, nearly 6 weeks after the whole process started that I have spoken to the manager based in Barnet and I am seeking compensation. The cheques are with M4G, but my gold has still been processed so I'm completely at a loss at the moment. Apparently they have improved their customer services in recent weeks, moving most of the work from USA to UK. In principle the system should work well, although I am not so sure of how they calculate the return on the gold. Especially where there are other sites claiming to offer more based on the huge price of gold at present.
