How much do you save on your shopping using coupons?

Options
I hope this is in the right place.

I would be really interested to know how much you save on your supermarket shopping using coupons from magazines / internet print outs / send off for ones etc.

My family all laugh at me for using 'coupons' but hey, I am saving lots now thanks to this site.

Please vote!

Thanks

Well, I had intended for this to be a poll, but for the life in me I can't figure out how to make that so.

Anyway, I will kick off by saying I am saving approx 50% off my bill which is approx £30 per week at the moment, and needless to say I am really impressed with that.

    Crikey!!
I'm lucky if I get 50p off every few weeks using a coupon!

I usually save about £20 on a £50 shop but at christmas when my local Tesco was accepting Somerfield coupons I was saving on average £40.

I save around £20 a week with coupons - normally one of each of the coupons I have up to about 1/3rd of the bill.

How do you get a shop to accept that much. Do you use a self scan till?

Only our Tesco will take vouchers when you dont buy the stuff but only 10% of your bill.

It is a little hit and miss and depends on which till operator I go to and in which store.

I look for the young lads who generally are not too bothered (good tip I got from on here) and they generally just scan as many as I hand over and often chuckle as they do so. My best ever is over £50 off a £70 shop and that included over £40 of the Nice N Easy vouchers (scan at £2.15 each). I was gobsmacked at that!

I have been to a different operator in the same store and they said no to any at all. Hey ho, I just avoid them in future.

Hiya Felicity, I used to do the same as you but have found now that I am recognised in my local stores !! funny thing is I have NEVER seen anyone else using vouchers whilst I have waited at the till.

However, the one supervisor will confirm that I can use my vouchers and will sometimes check what I am handing over to see if I am giving them any duplicates, in which case she will reject them. Ages ago there was a lady on here who was banned from her local Tescos for using vouchers so I do try to be discreet and not hand over bundles at a time. What I do is sometimes stagger my shopping so I can use some at a time rather than all in one go.

What I save varies - usually between £10-25 depending on how many times I have been there etc. As you probably know as avid voucher hunters Ramblers newspaper thread is one to check daily as for example today the Daily Mail has a voucher for £1.30 off so that's 85p profit on each paper bought and you can use the voucher at tescos without buying the item.

I think my coupon-savings work out at around 40% off, allowing for the up-front cost of some that I buy on ebay. I usually go to Tesco or Asda (alternate 2 different stores of each)

Some days the lads on the tills will scan any old bit of paper with a barcode (I agree, avoid the female cashiers who will often only accept a few coupons). Other times they have obviously had a weekly meeting and are all singing from the same hymn-sheet for a few days...so then I just buy about £10-worth of shopping every day and hand over as many coupons as they are accepting.

I have often had an £80-plus bill halved (but partly by using some of a large batch of coupons I have paid a bit for). Sometimes they won't accept internet coupons so I try to avoid these. Have joined every website I can which will send you free coupons (even nappies ones, just make up the year of birth of your 'baby')!;)

Has anyone experience of Waitrose? I have read on this site that they accept any coupons that they stock - I've got loads to use up before expiry end of May!

Gosh, how odd that somebody would be banned for using coupons!

If they accept them from you and scan them and tell you the price minus the coupon voucher then they are accepting the transaction surely. How can they then ban you?

Maybe I should be a bit more careful.
