Debt & christian ethics

I'm very aware I may be in for some slagging off here, but I could do with some advice from other Christians.
I can't get my head around the biblical principles of debt & saving, and I wondered what others thought? We're heavily in debt.
This is something close to my heart, so without being rude I would appreciate serious comments only.....(takes deep breath)....

Hi
Have you spoken to your Church leader I'm sure they'd want to help you with this.0 -
Hi Little Vics - certainly can't give you any advice on this one but have you considered talking to Christians Against Poverty? They are a debt advice charity that some people on here use for their debt management plans - but I'm sure that maybe you could speak to someone there.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

While some may say the love of money is the root of all evil I read a great bit in a book recently that said yes obviously greed is bad, wealth to the detriment of everything else is bad but that money in itself is not bad for money builds churches, pays for bibles to be printed, buys food (either for oneself which we need in order to live or as a means to support those who are worse off than ourselves). I will have a think and see if I can find the bit in my book about it as I have only roughly paraphrased it.
Don't know if that helps at all?

it is a shame you felt you might receive some slagging off. I hope you have enough faith in your own principals to not feel ashamed of what you believe. I am an aetheist but I would never be rude to someone because of their beliefs. we all need something in our lives...
As far as your debt problem goes - you should definitely approach your priest. I am sure that is the sort of problem they are supposed to be there for. I think Jesus didn't particlularly like money lenders - but he had nothing against people who borrow:)0 -
Not a Christian so can't really advise but would echo what others have said that there may be someone in your church group who can help or there are specific religious charities who may be able to help -see the link at the top of the page for one-on-one advice non-profit organisations.
Christians against Poverty have helped a number of people on here deal with the emotional as well as the financial issues around debt.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0

I think I was scared of the slagging off having seen some comments that some people make. I didn't mean to offend anyone. Useful things here - thanks.0

Unfortunately, had you not specifically requested not to be slagged off, I reckon you would have been.
I don't really understand what Christian Ethics and Debt is all about, but I'd be interested to learn, can you elaborate a bit more about what it means?0 -
I guess I want to get my head around what other Christians in debt feel about their situation and whether they're applying biblical principles (whatever they may be - I haven't got my head around them to be honest) to their money management. I thought it would also make an interesting debate amongst believers, and that we may be able to help/support each other.0

i'm going to bookmark the thread and see what comes out of it... interesting debate might ensue...
