New car needs new engine :(

I bought a brand new car worth £25K in May this year.
Engine has died. End result - the car needs a new engine. ( which is not disputed )
This will take from 3 - 5 weeks to get an engine into the UK and installed in the car.
I'm being offered a loaner cars ( from a different manufacturer which are of lesser prestige) during this time
What are my options?

Not even part of the same manufacturer.
It's a very nice high performance 2 seaters sports car - and I'm being offered an Astra/ Focus or at a push Mondeo And no I don't have a Ford or Vauxhall.0 -

This approach has worked out for owners if a certain "premium" brand car I know of. You might not get a 2 seater sports car but you should at least get something from the same car make.0 -

Oi watch it!:D I've got an Audi A4 05 plate and not had a single problem with it....and i drive it in the worst possible way...only 10k miles per year, around town only:eek:0 -
I would say grow up and get your head out of your butt. Unless its needed for work and has to be of a certain standard then whats the problem. When my 35K car was in for repair they gave me a Ka, so what lot worse things happening in the world than been given a Ka, grow up.0

In many ways I tend to agree with you but.........
It is really galling having shelled out a lot of money and through no fault of OP's the car is now away for 3-5 weeks and the trouble is that 3-5 weeks will probably stretch.
On a lighter note an old boss of mine had a brand new Aston Martin which died. Aston sent a lorry with Aston Martin all plastered down the closed sides of the trailer unit to collect the car and drop of his loaner. He was all excited until the guy opened the doors and rolled a Ford Escort out....:rotfl:0 -
eeeeeeekkkk new engine.
Is your dealeroffering you the car or have you been through the main customer service line too?
I have had loan cars for warranty work and if the dealer sorts it they try to charge for the insurance etc and give a Corsa but the main Vauxhall warranty service people get you like for like for free. Have you escalated?
I'd probably be more worried about checking out how this will impact the value in the future or is it on a PCP to return at the end of 3 years?
A replacement engine on a higher value premium model will ring alarm bells with potential buyers.
What are the regulations for swapping engine numbers etc and do V5 details need to be updated?I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

on the plus side you can also clear your garden and take loads of stuff to the tip which was not possible in your car.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

Hi Hintza,
I agree its not ideal but big deal still gets me from A to B.0 -
As previously mentioned, i really would not be worrying about anything trivial as a loan car. But i would be seriously concerned about needing an engine changed on a new car. No matter how good the mechanics are there will be traces all over that car and they will damage something given the size of the job. Like previously mentioned it will hurt re-sale, i would not buy a car with a replacement engine if there was one for sale with the original engine.0
