AAHHH!!! Student Finance

I think I am going crazy. Way back on April/May I sent a paper application for daughter no.1 (as we were unable to apply online) but did an online application for daughter no.2. We sent all the supporting evidence they asked for and had all the details they could ever need and more of both daughters, asking that this info be matched to both applicants.
Having had daughter no.1 application finalized we have been waiting and waiting for No.2. I rang about two months ago only to be told that the evidence had not been applied to no.2 and this would be amended. Now we still haven't heard anything and rang a gain today only to be told the same thing.
I can't understand how they can be so incompetent. I could understand it if we'd not been clear with our instructions. The problem is you can't actually speak to the dept who actually deal with the paperwork and the current phone assistants are seemingly a go between only between us and the real assessment dept.
We are so worried now that our daughter's money won't come in time and we are not in a position to support her for any length of time. We've been told that a message has now been sent and the problem should be fixed and we'll receive a phone call. If we don't get a phone call does anyone know how I can actually speak to someone who can actually do something?

I can't help re: who to contact at student finance etc, I've never had a problem, just sent off forms and then got loan etc, I've never tried to do it online.
But re: the loan not coming in time, I would have thought the university could help with that, by giving you more time to pay fees (and rent if using uni halls), and they might know about possible short term loans or similar, I'd contact them asap to see what they can do.0 -

) but I was at an air show so couldn't hear, and didn't actually know, so I said I would call back. Exactly right. I was told yesterday that they would send a message but it probably wouldn't get there for 48hrs and then someone should not would ring me. I was promised last time this would all be sorted out and treated as though I was making a fuss about nothing.

Doing my head in too.
Lost forms, claimed they lost my birth certificate then it miraculously appeared. 19 days to University, no money, what fun.
However, as far as i have read, the student loan at the very least is not income based. Also, if you got your application in on time, they put a disclaimer on the site saying you will get your money by the time you begin university.
The application is a binding contract, and i did get my application in on time, any forms lost were their responsibility as i sent all by recorded delivery.
Back to the binding contract, if you did get your application in on time, and you don't get your LOAN (not grant, as that takes longer) on time, Student Finance England are officially in debt to you, as i have discovered from speaking with financial advisors.
Let's just say Student Finance England didn't like hearing that on the phone, and have said they will ring me ASAP to get at the very least my loan sorted.
That is the way i reccommend you move forward, if in any doubt about what i've said, go to Connexions and request to speak to a financial advisor0 -
Yeah, I heard that if you have received a notification letter form them that is non-assessed, you will definitely get at least that amount when you start, and the income-assessed amount will be paid either at the same time or very shortly thereafter (in a very simplified way)

Student finacne compltetly lost me on the system and i only found out today,
had to re apply without any fianical evidence so it gets done quicker,
not really sure when im meant to give them my evidence?0 -
having the same problem sent in evidence 1st June recorded delivery p60 child tax credit form evidence of prof of earnings and daughters birth certificate.Birth certificate was returned weeks ago.They then said they hadnt received my evidence.They must have asd birth cert sent back.Several phone calls later they say it is there but not been processed.\then a letter came saying my daughter has been non income assesed as no evidence.Rang them up two weeks ago ,yes evidence is there again still not been processed What a complete mess.My online account still says awaiting evidence .has any one else had same prob0

Nad, did they return the evidence to you? It's probably easier to send it back in in your other daughter's name, I've a feeling they'll request this in any case.0 -
hey, feel like i should reply as the same thing happened to me EVERY YEAR for my first 3 years of uni until i was able to apply online which worked a bit better. Every year i would send all the forms off exactly how they asked, i would recieve a confirmation then come the first few days of uni... no loan!
Take solice in the fact that once term starts and most people have their loans they are alot quicker in sorting problems out (often in a couple of days the money is in your account) and you do have a few weeks of uni before any major payments have to be made0
