Plusnet are offering a comparable and (in my opinion better broadband service to the TalkTalk option.
Plusnet Broadband Comparison
This time the broadband isn't free, but total cost is the same as TalkTalk, but as your paying for the service, you have better comeback.
BUT (!), you're NOT tied into an 18month contract, this time Plusnet only ask for a 1 month contract, as well as the leaving fee being only £20 against TalkTalk's £70.
They cover a wider area of the UK, and you also have a larger usage per month, 50GB against talktalk's 40GB
(CORRECTION: This morning it was 50GB - seems they made a typo, as it is now saying 50MB with additional usage cost - still have the original printout out to prove it !!!)
Setup cost is slightly more expensive at £47 against £29.99, but for a (virtually) no-ties contract, particularly in this quick-changing market, well worth it in my view.
Can't see any catches yet. Anyone found any downside????!!

Hi Dave
We use Plusnet and they are brilliant.
There customer service is second to none and they really do HELP you. not like the 'others' who tell you stupid stuff, or tell you stuff you've already tried.
HWTHMBO is in the 'puter business so we have used just about every provider going but these guys are the best, and if he rates them highly you know you are on to a good thing.
I was talking to him abou thte Talk Talk ofer and he said "you get what you pay for, I bet they've probably got some work experience boys from the local college as their customer services trouble shooting team" - think C4 IT Crowd and you'd be on the right lines.
So yes I would go for it they are very, very good.just in case you need to know:

Below is copied from adslguide
"From July 2006, Plusnet will be offering a combined line rental/calls and broadband package. The bundle is based around the BT wholesale line rental service, and standard BT IPstream products, which means that the service will be available at all of the full ADSL build BT exchanges.
The line rental component comes in two flavours, PlusTalk Anytime at £11 a month with 240 minutes of inclusive UK landline calls, or PlusTalk Anytime+ for £15 a month, which includes calls to UK landlines and 20 international destinations. This price includes the line rental, so no BT bills once on this service, which has a 1 month rolling contract, with a £20 admin fee payable when you end the contract.
The ADSL product is Broadband Basic and is priced at £9.99 per month, and is a Pay As You Go type service. The maximum line speed will be 8Mbps, with the actual speed determined by what your specific line will manage, and then the usual Internet variations due to the shared nature of the medium. 50MB (MegaBytes) of usage is bundled, with further usage charged at 0.224pence per MB (1000MB = £2.24). The ADSL service is available as a standalone product from 31st May 2006, with a 1 month contract. Migration onto the service costs £14.99 or £47 if it is a new connection, an option to spread this cost over ar 12 months period is available.
There is no price or usage cap placed on the service, you use it you pay for it above the basic 50MB. It is possible for the customer to set their own budget limit for the month, thus avoiding surprise bills. To find out more visit the Plusnet website.
Update 26th April 10:30am: Slight reword regarding the activation fee. On original news item we implied the activation was deferrable and if you stayed for 12 months it was free. The word defer on the Plusnet site in relation to Broadband Basic means that you actually can spread the activation fee over a 12 month period."Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. I am a relatively experienced internet/computer user but not in the class of some of the correspondents so forgive what might appear naive questions. As I understand it Plusnet is an ISP like(?) AOL but TalkTalk is not an ISP. So first question is, do you have to have a separate ISP when using TalkTalk broadband? I am a pretty loyal AOL broadband user for my sins and don't particularly want to move away. I am though a TalkTalk telephone user so could I take this new offering from TalkTalk to get the broadband cheaper and faster and keep AOL as the ISP? If it is possible to get access to AOL from another broadband supplier how does one organise the 'basic' service from AOL?0

I've just spent 15 minnutes searching their site, and eventually found their telephone number, when I called it, no answer.
Wow.. if this is second to none, where do you live, Russia?0 -

Hi
Whoever supplies your broadband is your isp, (Internet Service Provider) at the moment yours is AOL, if you change over and get your broadband from Talk Talk, then they become your isp, you then need to cancel AOL, otherwise you'll be paying 2 isps, for one broadband connection.
If your already using TalkTalk telephone, then it might be good for you to change to them, as long as their terms and conditions are alright for what you want.. Yes it would be cheaper going with them, as they are now supplying broadband free, as long as you have their telephone package. But you have to sign into a 18mth contract with them, so check out carefully all their terms and conditions and their small print.
Hope this helps0 -
50 MB is no good to anyone!
If you only use 5GB a month it adds £12 to your monthy bill!0
