BMI Baby charge for Visa Electron card

I just booked my flight and when I came to the payment page I entered my Visa electron card number, but it kept saying that "the card type specified does not match with the card number". I had no other option other than choosing Visa card option which it accepted. Now I was charged around 30£ as credit card, but I paid with my Visa electron card. Anybody have similar experience or is it just me? Is there any freephone number or address I can write to?

Is it a UK issued card? What are the first four digits? Would it not have made sense to ring them before booking?
    Gone ... or have I?

I got the card from tesco store especially for booking this flight. It is a travelex cash passport card starting with 4008. I thought if it a visa electron it should automatically detect it.

Hmmmm 4008 brings up VISA but not Electron

    Electron numbers are as follows

    4917 - Halifax
    4175
    4913
4508 - could it be this?
    4844

There maybe others? Suggest you give Tesco's a call.

The card number is starting with 4008. I called tesco, but all they could do is that confirm that transaction has gone through and they say there is no problem with the card. My only option is to call the premium 0905 number for bmibaby.

    [edit] ...

Beware. My PayPal Top Up Visa card beginning 4844 - issued by RBS - sometimes shows as Visa Electron on receipts. However, Ryanair would not accept it as a Visa Electron card (so I used my Halifax Electron card).

But is it a debit card?

It is a debit card. I guess all Visa electron cards are Debit cards.

Sounds like it is a cash passport card and not a debit card, perhaps bmibaby may only accept visa electron debit cards.

Yes. It is a cash passport card. I talked to bmibaby customer services and they asked me to send a letter to them. Dont know I'll get the card fee back. fingers crossed!!
  • I booked my flight with Ryanair and paid with Halifax Visa Electron but I was charged £1.50! It's a small sum of money, yes, but I feel like being ripped off. And I hate rip offs.

    Anyone got the same experience?
