where do you look for houses???

I look at houses in different areas, i dont really look at estate agents website i look at rightmove and then if im interested in a property i will telephone the estate agent and try and arrange a viewing.

Now i have heard figure that 80 percent of house buyers look on rightmove to look for houses, now im not going to give the option of i do a bit of both, but in this poll the options will either be.

i mainly use rightmove to look for houses

i mainly use local estate agents websites and their windows.

I personally use rightmove and if im interested i may go to the estate agents website or phone them up, i do have to say theough i can not remember the last time i looked in a estate agents window.

....because in my area, only 30% or so of the available pre-owned properties are on Rightmove, with varying proportions on other portals (but still no portal dominates).

In order to see the other 70% or so, you HAVE to look at the agents' own websites.

Again; What's the source of the 80% figure?

When I was selling and choosing an EA, any not using Rightmove would probably have been low in the my selection pile.

Yes, but if the majority of the houses in your county WEREN'T on Rightmove, would you have insisted on it?

Why would anyone look there if only 30% of the available houses are there?

I can only speak about my county. Can't understand why any agent wouldn't use Rightmove.

I use Globrix - so neither of your options suit me.

It may be regional but, like googler, a good number of local EA's no longer use RM. From what I understand RM is owned by several corporate EA's and last year when the market was dire they were putting up their prices when EA earnings were drastically down. Several (3 I think) in my town went bust and some of the independents believe it was a calculated move by RM's owners to drive smaller agents out of business.

We recently sold my late MIL's house and used a local agent who is not on RM. We had 13 different viewers and it sold in less than 7 weeks for full asking price - so I no longer feel RM is as pre-eminant as it was a couple of years ago.

Rightmove all the way. Occasionally the local paper too but then rightmove to find out the full details.

We were registered with all our local agents, as well as using a number of websites. I like RM because of Property Bee, but unfortunately only a small portion of houses for sale in our area make it on there. Personally I find Primelocation more useful - but in any case I'd rely heavily on local EAs.
