Default Free Sky+ plus £50 M&S vouchers

Update 14 May 09.

This offer's been extended until 25 June 09.

What's the deal?

Sign up to any of Sky's packages via Moneysupermarket* before Wednesday 13 May and you can get a free Sky+ box plus £50 M&S vouchers.

The Full Low-Down

New Sky customers can get a year's contract with a free Sky+ box (which is the famous hard drive recorder with live pause etc) plus £50 M&S vouchers before 13 May. The basic package costs £16.50 a month.

What you get
  • Free Sky+ box (usually worth £99, or £49 at the moment)
  • Free 2Mb broadband (if you rent your line from Sky rather than BT, otherwise £5)
  • Free weekend calls
  • £50 M&S vouchers
What you don't get
  • Installation, which costs £30
  • Telephone line rental, which you get from BT or Sky at £10/month.
How to get this deal

1. Go to the special MSM Sky deal* before 13 May and click on Sky+box for free.
2. Pick the package you want and check out.

Can this be beaten?

Currently Sky has a promotion on where if you sign up direct you'll get £25 of Tesco vouchers. Couple this with the £30 cashback that's available via cashback sites and you'll be £5 up (though the cashback's not always guaranteed).

However most cashback sites take a £5 per year admin fee, so if you're new to using them, both deals are of roughly the same value. For full details on how cashback sites work and which the top payers are read the Top Cashback Sites guide.

What is Sky+?

It's a hard-drive recorder which means you can live pause and rewind live programmes, and record things without tape. It's been called Sky's "killer application" and is rated by the Which? as the top box of its type.

Default Sky+ Box free and £50 M&S

I just signed up for this on-line and it all went through very smoothly. Easy to opt out of sky talk and broadband etc. Installation booked for 10 days time though, so will have to wait and see what happens!

Default Sky+ Box free and £50 M&S

If anyone has taken up this offer with Sky, just be warned that you may need to chase them for your £50 M&S vouchers.

We had it installed months ago and had to really chase them with emails and letter to get our hands on the vouchers. They did arrive in the end however.

Thumbs down Blocks of flats don't qualify for deals...

I got tempted by a very similar deal recently but because I live in a block of flats I wasn't eligible for the deal. Boo to sky - because they have to outsource to local companies for this kind of installation the deals aren't available to us flat dwellers - this includes blocks with 10 or more flats. Was very annoyed that I didn't get the deal I had been enticed by but had to go with it because there's no Virgin cable in my area yet - and probably not for a long time.

I will be using my complaint letter skills to argue about the discrimination against where you live as to what deals you get, when I get round to it I'll let you know how I get on...!

Yes, but what if there is only one room in your house with a TV? Doesn't seem very fair, as one of the reasons for wanting a Sky Plus box is so that people who didn't get first pick of the programmes can have it recorded to watch later!

Existing customers can get Sky+ for £49, dont know if that includes installation or not it doesnt say, if they take multiroom and sign up for another year, so not free for their loyal customers.

Default Existing Sky customers

It's about time Sky+ was free or a lot cheaper to existing customers
£99 for the box + £60 installation is more than the original Sky installation
Come on Sky - think about us

Default SkyHD

I looked at this then decided to call Sky instead, to see what I could negotiate.

I have just signed up to:
Sky HD (which includes Sky+, on the HD box)
Sky Talk (line rental, which was BT)
Sky Broadband (2Mb, 2Gig capped)
Sky TV (Varity Mix, which includes 19 HD channels)

£49 one off fee, for the HD Box
£16.50 for the first month, then
£26.50 per month, for 12 months.

I also haggled £25 of Tesco vouchers, and free installation & setup for next Thursday.

Very happy with this as I was paying £12.50 per month to BT, and £7 per month to AOL.

Loustar - I live in a block of flats with over ten flats in. I couldn't do it online but when I rang the local supplier they still gave me the deal. It is worth another try.

We've just signed up for it also. Can anyone tell me why they have to connect the sky box to a phone socket? I'm not happy about this because it will mean an ugly white cable being tacked in all the way to the phone socket in my hall and also because I can't see why it's necessary.

Unhappy Typical Sky!

Just had a lengthy call to Sky about the Sky+ & £50 free M&S vouchers. Waste of time and money - spoke to 2 people and they both confirmed there was no such offer on the go meantime. I explained about the email but could not sign me up for that could only give me the free sky+ box no vouchers!!
Has anyone else had problems?

I was looking on the sky website and they are offering Sky+ box £49 with free installation and a £25 tesco gift card (when you sign up online). I decided to phone them up for more info and blagged myself a free sky+ box and the vouchers all I am paying is the £16.50 a month subscription. Just by asking if they could beat BT!

Quite impressed with myself, usually I have no tact whatsoever!!
