shill bidding

I know it goes on but am getting really annoyed at how much its going on lately.

I was bidding on 2 items today from the same seller, looked at the bidders and notice on both items, bidder number 3 has bid on 30 items with 66% with this seller. Clearly shill bidding so I looked on and found the same on 6 out of their 10 items! Reported them to Ebay!

Bidding on something for DD and got outbid so bidded again as only 10 mins left, looked at the bidders and the bidder whos pushing the price up has bid on 24 items from this seller and 100% bidding is with them! Reported them to ebay too. Really loved the outfit and am so annoyed

    Is it shill bidding?

To protect the identity of bidders Ebay does not display their ID. On each item it just lists bidder 1, bidder 2 and so on.

Bidder 3 on one item might not be the same bidder 3 as on another item.

You can't even see the bidders after the auction finishes, only the winner.

If a seller plays the shilling game they can end up with a lot of unsold items, and a lot of fees.

I think OP means when you scroll over the bidders it says like "bidding activiy in the last 30 days: x bidding activity with this seller: xx% bidding in x categories" etc and thats where she got her info from.

If it is similar items could the bidder not just be trying to win several for a postage discount? I often bid on 4-5 items from same seller if it is clothing in same sizes etc. I'm not a shill bidder!!
If google doesn't know it, how should i?

If you click on where it says bidder 1 it tells you how many items theyve bid on, how many with this item and the % of their bidding that is with the seller of the item you are viewing

thats the thing its not all similar items, ok some of them are kids clothes but varying in sizes from nebown to age 10. the seller only sells a few items here and there from what i gather

I spose but when shill bidder x has bid on everything from the seller who has listed in many different categories, it becomes a bit suspicious.

Looks like shill bidding to me!! I'd be livid! Post both Ebay IDs up, we;ll report them & get people like this kicked off & make eBay a safer place for us all.
  • Good for you.
I'm guessing- private seller? 99p start?
Ebay walked straight into this surge in absolute rubbish and dishonest selling.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

:TThanks for this honeybun - a lightbulb has just gone on above my head because of your post.

I was puzzled because some items I had been watching all from the same seller were getting bid up way out of my price range and into silly money with six days left to run. Then all of a sudden they dropped back down into a little less than these items have been going for normally and one of the bidders seems to be missing on all of them. (there are bidders 1,3,4,5, and 6 but no bidder 2 etc.)

Do you think this was a case of some shill bidding going on?

I must admiit I'm horribly naive about these things but doesn't the whole Bidder 1 etc system play into the shill bidders hands?

    Love Jacks xxx :D
