valuing LPs

as for postage ive been looking @ ebay and the average for an lp is arounf £2.50

also i posted a 7" single the other day in a jiffy bag with "do not bend" written all over it and the total cost of packaging and stamp was £1.49. so i made 1p :rotfl: and 20p overall after fees :rotfl:

aparently poundland do jjiffybags for £1 for ten or somthing as opposed to £1.09 for one in my lical shop

what ive been doing is be very honest in my descriptions and detailling every "fault" like surface scratches or rips in the cover in the description. at least then hopefully none can comeback at me saying poor sale.

neither do i but im honest and state "the last time they were played they played perfectly/ok/whatever. i dont have a record player anymore and the record has been stored (insert where its been stored) for x number of years".

does anyone wanna buy new kids on the block? rick astley? paula abdul? aha? LOL i think im stuck with them tbh.

My local PO is currently selling board-backed envelopes at 99p for a 5 pack. They're much too small for LPs, but suitable for 7" singles (don't forget to mark them PLEASE DO NOT BEND).
I found a record price guide in the reference section of my local public library, but I don't recall the title. The prices given are generally what you'd expect to pay in a specialist shop, so they're likely to make less on eBay. Also, the difference in price between mint and fair condition is huge.
I usually consider myself the bargain-hunter of the family, but once my hubby and I both went to a charity sale, I looked through the LPs first, and in my ignorance, failed to pick out the collectors' item. My husband found it (some obscure New order album) bought it for 25p and sold it to a dealer (this was before we had internet accss at home) for £15.

I've been selling a few vinyl albums and singles, sometimes on their own but if they're not worth much then grouping them together into a "similar bundle" like all the same artist/genre etc. I use cardboard backed envelopes from Staples - you can get a decent size for singles and one that's just a little larger than necessary for albums. They aren't cheap but then I add that to the postage and package charge and explain in the advert. So far no ones minded. After all if they know the total price when bidding that's what they should concentrate on ???

Also weigh everything and check the postal price before advertising - vinyl is heavy and it's easy to underestimate the cost.

As for finding out what they're worth - do a search on Ebay as that sometimes throws up interesting numbers - I've some items that might be valued at "£3" but when searching for them it turns out there are 10's on Ebay with hardly any selling....if they do then with fees it's not worth the time to list....
