How do they work out this income?

Options
I'm on full income support at the mo and child tax credits. I start working in a school kitchen from monday and will earn £45 a week. I guess that the DHSS will take £25 and let me keep the other £20.

The thing is i start a leaflet delivery job on friday as well, which pays £38 a week. It's ideal to fit around my dinner lady job and the kids as i can deliver any time in the week.

Also i'm planning on being a dog carer for a leading dog boarding company and will be paid around £7 a day per dog. I do not know how many bookings a week/month/year i will get. I may get two or i may get loads.

How do i tell the DHSS??

How do they work out what i have to declare on the doggy job if i have no certain income from it??

I know i will have to declare my dinner lady job and leaflet delivery job as there will be a certain wage each week gauranteed..

BUT:

How do i work out how much a month/week i will get by caring for these dogs if i'm unsure how many, if any bookings i will receive

I want to be as honest with the DHSS as possible

Are you going to be working an average of 16 hours or more per week with these jobs, cos if so you would come off IS and go on WTC, which means you'd lose certain things but you might be better off.

If you're not then you'll only keep £20 in total, so in effect doing the extra jobs for nothing:confused: .

BTW- £38 for delivering leaflets:eek: - are you prepared to tell us who for cos that sounds really good.

Kimberly you need to be careful that you do not earn over your IS allowance for yourself, as if you do you will not be entitled to IS, and all the extra's that go with this benefit. For your doggy work you will have to inform them for each week

AFAIK it's the hours that count rather than the amount so work 15 hours and earn £75 you'd keep £20 and stay on IS, work 16 hours and earn £80 then you need to be on WTC and CTC not IS.

CAB or benefits advice can do a 'better off' calculation.

Yeah i guess with the dinner lady job and the time it will take to do the leaflets distributing then it will take me over 16 hours per week. They estimate it will take 4-5 hours to deliver them, which i would do an hour per day. The dinner lady job is 10 hours a week, which is 2 hours per day.

So because i'm trying to do my best to come off benefits and fit jobs around the kids, does it mean i will lose out financially by doing these hours?

No it isnt, if you earn more than IS then you will not be entitled to IS
When i spoke to IS about maintenance i was told by them that if i had more than IS allowance then i would not be entitled to IS

I'll pop down tomorrow then and ask them to do a calculation for me. If say it takes me more then 5 hours per week to do my leaflets, say 6 hours, then that brings me to 16 hours a week :D

If they say i come off income support and can claim WTC, does that mean i'd be entitled to my maintenance bonus etc??

Yes it does, they also gove you some kind of work bonus too, like you can claim for so many extra weeks whilst you settle into employment, or summat like that. You really need to do all your figures out and work out which is best but i do know this new system where CTC pay for your children and IS only pay for the adult is going to put a lot of people into financial trouble
